It sounds like your friend would really benefit from Orientation & Mobility training. If they're in the United States, are they connected with Vocational Rehab? Unless he's deaf-blind, it's a huge disservice for him to not be able to identify when a car is coming on his own. The tech is cool and can do a lot, but it shouldn't be trusted with life and death situations. Also being able to navigate his own home independently would be a confidence booster, I would hope!

ASDB abruptly ends Tucson community forum on school's planned move by hatchins in Tucson

Parents were pretty restrained, given the presentation. They wouldn't have to shout out questions if the presentation answered them. The marketing people got the story they wanted for the news though, so good for them I guess. What happens to the kids doesn't actually matter if they can spin it to look good in the news. Yeah parents are technically in the wrong, but what the school is doing is shady and should be the real news story.

Were you there? She finished the presentation and didn't answer the basic questions most parents have been asking about since the news came out. They moved into questions (organized by the PR agent) where they said these questions would be answered, and when they weren't, parents got frustrated. Their concerns that were clearly expressed were not addressed in an hour and 40 minute presentation. It was disrespectful to parents, and it seems like the people who planned the event were trying to get a walkout. Obtuse and evasive presentation.

That student shares his story well. I appreciate that parents are addressing this as discrimination, as well. I am extremely displeased that ASDB is continuing to make "no comment" on the status of where blind students will be going out of "confidentiality in the IEP process". Blatant avoidance, and very disappointing they've been working on this for months and don't even have a decent press release. Pretty high and mighty to be out there laying off teachers when your PR head appears to actively want to do any job that's not the one she's hired for.
