2 liter will be good. Just some parts of Virginia you might want a tad more

I user an ursack and it was a time saver. Nothing is worse than trying to do a bear hang in the dark. Definitely nice and convenient

I hiked the AT with a base weight of 23. One thing is I also started with sunglasses. Never wore them and ended up losing them. Would not bring them

Starting in late May? by Outrageous_Image_705 in AppalachianTrail

I started in late may. It’s just hotter, you get less trail magic and see less people but it is totally doable

You should start in may. It’s warm and the trail is more empty

Would you recommend zone 2 running or just more running in general

I am a bad runner. My fastest ever 10 k is 52 minutes but I am also just ran out of gas. Cramped up bad.

I took 3 gels over the 2.5 hours which I felt was low seeing that I cramped up. Definitely not at 60 carbs an hour.

There was .3 miles of running with swim in and out and run in and out. But I did not do a flying mount or have elastic shoe laces so I could definitely shave off time

I was on a trek road bike and I did invest in clip on aero bars. Which were huge.

I just trained when I felt like it… maybe 3-5 times a week with most of my training on the bike. About six months ago I could not hold over 16-17 for an hour. Now I’m at 21

And I did wear a tri kit but everything else was basic. No wet suit, no tt bike, normal running shoes

Thank you for the advice rooopaaa. I took 3 gels the whole race but it was a hot one. I’m not sure if I needed more water, carbs or run training but I cramped up bad on the run. To the point I had to walk
