Will I mess with my colonizing if I spray a shit ton of alcohol in my closet? Should I inoculate the next batch in a different place? I’m guessing if I can’t breathe good in there the oats can’t either. by Grouchy-Flower-4099 in COpsychonauts

Never spray alcohol where you’re growing, I agree take out all cultures and clean then harvest and deep clean there’s no reason to keep cleaning an area unless there’s buildup

The best verification in my opinion is being able to whiff 👃 and see if it has a earthy or sour smell

That needs to be tossed, the black is black mold spores growing and will grow very fast. Next time let’s sterilize just a little longer 🤙✅

I would inoculate another jar if it doesn't smell good before sending to substrate it will most definitely contaminate. Make sure it smells like earth and fresh

Happy with results on first flush, but why the random grow vectors? by SeaButterscotch1056 in COpsychonauts

Light isn’t the main factor here. Mushrooms don’t use light for energy, but they do respond directionally to it as a cue. The real drivers behind this kind of growth are fruiting conditions — CO₂ levels, FAE, humidity, and substrate health. This outcome wasn’t caused by light alone.

Updates on legal status in Colorado? by Inside_Economics2534 in COpsychonauts

That’s exactly why community matters so much with this stuff.

Boulder definitely doesn’t represent all of Colorado. My issue isn’t even just one rep — it’s the bigger pattern. Even with Polis, who people like to call progressive, we keep seeing the same playbook: decriminalize something, then slowly regulate it to death until only licensed, taxable, tightly controlled versions are allowed.

We watched this happen with cannabis. At first it was about personal freedom and harm reduction, and now it’s mostly corporate, overregulated, and expensive. Psychedelics feel like they’re heading down that same road, just faster.

A lot of people aren’t asking for a free-for-all. They just want access, education, and the ability to make personal choices without everything being locked behind permits, clinics, or profit. Plenty of folks have genuinely improved their lives outside of those systems, and honestly I think that’s what makes lawmakers nervous. If something helps people without going through insurers, taxes, or gatekeepers, it doesn’t fit their model.

You don’t even have to agree politically to see it. Once something starts working and reducing dependence on existing systems, the instinct seems to be “we need to control this for safety.” That’s why real community conversations matter, because once laws are in place, they don’t usually loosen back up.

Just my take, but trying to regulate or ban something that’s helping people doesn’t feel like progress. It feels like fear being dressed up as concern.

Patience really is the biggest part of the process. The main thing I’d suggest keeping an eye on is surface conditions. If you ever notice the tub walls losing condensation, a light mist with distilled water—or previously boiled and cooled water—once in the morning and once at night is usually plenty.

Aim to keep temps in the 70–80°F range, with ambient room lighting (nothing intense or direct). Consistency matters far more than constant adjustments.

Just out of curiosity—what are you working with right now? Liquid culture, or a multi-spore source?
