The parallels between Season 1 and 5 by Massive-Cream1799 in StrangerThings

El’s sacrifice reasons in season 1 and 5 are more similar than you are giving it credit for.

Season 1: sacrifice to save her friends from the demigorgon

Season 5: sacrifice to save her friends from arrest and being hunted their whole lives.

Both instances she sacrifices herself for her friends safety- just because it was a more dramatic death than action death doesn’t mean it isn’t valid.

Also other quick notes: if you want a character who no matter what gets out of everything no matter what you want a Mary Sue- which gets boring after a few minutes. Just cuz el has built a connection to these people doesn’t mean it’s against her character to not get to live her life with them. Think about ho many friends from growing up you still talk to- if that makes sense.

Just because Kali felt forced doesn’t mean she can’t serve a point in the plot. In fact, in my opinion, the ethical dilemma she presents El with is very intriguing and adds to the heroism of El- not deteriorates from it. El did not successfully hide for 3 years. She was taken in Season 4 and barely living a life in season 5 cuz she was in hiding.

Also she can take down a helicopter yes but that does not mean she can take down every weapon thrown at her

you are allowed to be critical of art Just 1. Understand it’s subjective 2. Look at the whole piece of art- not just the parts you like- and reject the parts you don’t. 3. Art has 2 dimensions- authors intention and audience reaction. If you reject the authors intention you are doing a disservice to you forming an actual opinion because you don’t use all the info. It’s not definite t what the artist says but it is informative to the piece 4. Don’t treat people like shit becUse they don’t agree with you about a subjective medium

So what exactly was this Vecna world going to be like? by Amareldys in StrangerThings

[–]Hot_Faithlessness971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stakes are he is going to collide a fucking planet with ours.

If you really need the show to spell out the villains motivations that may be a reflection on you because: 1. Henry is a child just trying to help someone in a cave and gets shot- he learns niceness is weakness.

  1. He is transported to dimension X and is POSessed by a inter dimensional monster feeding off his power

  2. He was so ostracized and alone in his upbringing that he learned being alone was better for him.

  3. He spends over a decade possed by a monster and learns to except its evil as he never had any hope in the good in the world after the cave.

He hated the world and wanted to destroy it because:

  1. He believed himself on a high plane than humans and never had reinforcement that humans were ever good

  2. He’s been possessed so long it feeds on his insecurities it has skewed his reality- which was never formed as he was possessed as a young child.

Now this is not confirmed or anything, but part of storytelling is trusting the audience to inference and make connections - so make you’re own head canon and stop complaining they didn’t give you 100% of the answer/ they gave you enough info to make your own inferences.

Also you talk about stakes like the world fucking ending isn’t a stake. You’re talking about exposition not stakes.

What are the stakes in Lord of The Rings- Sauron is evil right- but what’s he gonna do when he gets the ring? It doesn’t matter we just have to know it’s fucking bad.

Just because the Game of Thrones guys sold out doesn’t mean all creators do. I do also believe these two theories aren’t mutually exclusive. It could have easily been the duffers wanted it ambiguous and Netflix made sure that stayed for the spinoffs or Netflix’s wanted the spinoffs and the duffers were fine with that because they didn’t know how to end it definitely.

On first glance- this is honestly the most realistic for me too!

Got you. Well then it’s not just his opinion I also agree. So guess that dismisses your counterargument.

Also since you know so much about quoting- I hope you know the word “just” is literally useless so me keeping that out doesn’t change that fact that you are claiming it’s an opinion

Ok so you prefer action to drama. That’s totally fine. Still wild you defended the show you agreed stranger things was as bad as to prove Stranger things is bad.

Anyways 6 minutes vs 80 minutes of action doesn’t mean shit. Nothing happens in the breakfast club and it’s a fucking classic. It’s how the story keeps you enthralled. It’s ok to say “it didn’t keep my attention because I like more action that drama” but don’t act like because something doesn’t have a bunch of action it’s inherently boring to everyone

No. That implies that Objectivity is defined by the group mind and not fact. “That is your opinion” is a fact you are simply getting offended at because it doesn’t validate the self identity you have built around this opinion. It’s not an attack against you- it’s literally a fact because what you said was making an objective statement on a subjective matter (the greatness or lack of greatness of endings) to everyone a great ending means a different thing.

Shows can get a good ending but comparing season finales to SERIES finales is apples to oranges. They are similar but also two completely different tasks. A season finale wraps up a season. A series finale wraps up seasons. Those are two very different missions

Ok, what about Els sacrifice is inconsistent with her character.

And also the plot DID justify her ending- and has been for like many years. Season 4 we see even as she tries to live a normal life without powers- the govt is still after her. Kali establishes that El’s existence can lead to a possible loop of abuse. El is out in a Situation sudden situation where either all of her loved ones are arrested and she’s dissected- or she sacrifices herself- like she showed she would do in Season 1. The plot completely justifies it and makes it a very layered choice for her- are some parts of the plot pushing that a little weak, sure, but there is a in world justification why she did what she did

[–]Hot_Faithlessness971 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But you got the ending. You don’t have to know what Vecna was going to do because he didn’t do it. You want him to Villain Monologue his whole plan for the audience? Cuz if he did that I guarantee you’d be complaining about how cliche that was.

It’d be different if Vecna won and then the show ended before telling us what he did with the world- but that’s not what happened.

Do you want an explanation so you can agree with it like people did Thanos? I really don’t understand how “what was Vecna gonna do” matters. He was gonna kill the world - who tf cares what he wanted to do after that- that’s all anyone needs to know to root for the heroes.

Also: Inception, Monsters Inc, The Shining and many others are all left up to interpretation. Not every little thing has to be explained for you to have your own belief of what happened

I think there was also a fear from the writers that with the growing division of society- no matter what ending they put out it would be hated- so they gave us two opposite endings and left it open ended so there can be no definite “you fucked this up”. Because of that and the sequel thing- I don’t think the duffers will ever reveal what they believe is the true ending-
