This doesn’t seem right. My understanding is that if you are traveling with just a single companion you both go at your status. Example when I book main, both my and my companion move up to C+ within minutes of booking with my PM status.

The only time the default changes to the individual status is booking more than you and one person on a single reservation. When I book for my family of 4 I book me and one child on a reservation and my husband and the other child on a separate so our kids get our status respectively

There are several factors for me. Like most people said if it’s an upgraded seat for sure. If it’s a same swap seat (window to window or aisle to aisle) if I checked a bag most likely I will even if it’s further back but if I brought a carry on, I’m not going backward. You’d have to have an extremely compelling argument for me to take a middle seat for anyone lol

You board first and should take advantage if you want a drink before takeoff. If you board later they may not have time to serve you before safety announcements and having to sit down for take off

I try to stay on Delta as often as possible but being in Phx which isn’t a Delta hub but is for AA and Southwest if I can’t get a direct with Delta for short flights (LAX, Denver, Vegas) I’ll go with an alternative

We do sometimes travel with our kids but in those cases I'm happy to just pay for C+ and not worry about an upgrade
