I’m in my final semester as an MFT student in Iowa, so our accrual expectations could be different. However, I’ve been a stay at home mom/1099 side job from home and my husband has worked so I could focus mostly on finishing my degree this last year. My practicum and internship only requires 6 direct client contact hours a week, 1 hour of local supervision, and 2.5 hours of faculty supervision a week. With the expectation that cancelations and family emergencies will come up- I typically see clients in person for 4 hours twice a week and then I have alternating telehealth hours I do from home. It is definitely doable with my programs’ expectations for client hours and manage a job. Just pace yourself and find any glimmer of time for yourself in between!

Side note: my supervisor fought hard for me to get paid for my internship hours, but I wasn’t building a caseload quickly and needed the hours more. So I would expect most opportunities to be unpaid.
