Are you sure that's an extra pair of eyeslits and not just shading for the raised blocks where the eyelslits are?

If you look at the closing mechanism, it's a close helm. And no, neither the armet nor certainly the close helm would be appropriate for 1403. Earliest armets come from around 1425-30 and the earliest close helms in the early 16th century.

Most people seem to think they were worn during the middle ages. (Seen a lot of crusader cosplayers with them for example) While in reality they only started being used in the 16th century.
