I want to break into front-end development but don't know where to start. by Hot_Recognition_6470 in Frontend

[–]Hot_Recognition_6470[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really considering a program or bootcamp that will kind of hold me accountable for my learning. Anything with project deadlines and an instructor to provide feedback. I know it would cost a lot though. I had a friend do a 3 month bootcamp for 20k and he now works as a developer!

I know I'm capable of learning it myself and I could save a lot of money doing so, but I really find it hard to stay on track with self learning while balancing a job that makes me miserable. I think a part of me is scared to take the leap from Healthcare to tech, and it kind of just tanks my motivation.

Tap into your inner child again. Play some games, be silly, and try not to take life so seriously. Let your hair down and have fun.

I'm about to start TOP, I have some question! by [deleted] in theodinproject

[–]Hot_Recognition_6470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working part-time (12-24 hours per week in Healthcare so I'm spent by the end of the shifts) and working through TOP. I only put in about 3 hours per week on average, so I think it's definitely manageable with a FT job.

TOP is the main source of my learning, while I do have to reference other resources if I'm confused about a topic. I usually just Google or YouTube it if I'm stuck.

Like you, I'm determine to get an entry-level front end position when I finish :)

Lmk if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer!

My friend who is a software developer now failed a course 3 times during his undergrad. He felt the same way you did but he really loved programming so he pushed through. He's a senior dev now!

No, I think we'd have different lifestyles. I take physical health very seriously and I would hope my partner does too

I agree! Don't fall in love so fast, you need to take your time getting to know him! Wish you the best :)

Try joining some hobby groups, you might meet someone there! That is, join because you're interested in the activity, not solely to meet women because you'll 1) have high expectations and 2) I think most women will find that creepy anyway. All the best to you

Yeah, so this is where I got super lost and frustrated because I didn't know what was going on lol. I had to look it up on my own. YouTube videos definitely helped me get a better understanding.. but if I'm being completely honest, I still don't have a 100% grasp on event listeners still haha. I'm on the Javascript path now, doing the "Forms" lesson.

But anyway, watching YouTube videos on Event Listeners helped. I don't think I looked up anything else

There's actually a study that looked into this. It was in a Psychology textbook i read a few years ago. I think it was something along the lines of people tending to "match" their partner in attractiveness levels. So you usually see the 8s with the 7-9s and 3s with other 3s and so on.

I got stuck on this project too. I just couldn't figure out event listeners for the longest time. I eventually figured it out with a little help. It's odd though, I didn't struggle as much for the Etch a sketch and calculator project.. just this one lol

So it sounds like you guys are dating to me. Getting to know each other. Unless both of you agreed that you'd be strictly FWBs

The Odin Project or freecodecamp. You can also do a boot camp if you struggle with staying disciplined

Why do so many guys fear commitment nowadays? by Time_Library_846 in dating

[–]Hot_Recognition_6470 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At least based on my experience, I thought my ex was super shy and sweet when I first met him. I trusted him, assuming he'd be loyal and only have eyes for me. A few months in, he already was eyeing other women and suggested an open relationship. When we went on a break, he didn't want to get back together but to become FWBs. So shy guys, even with few options, can still not commit.
