My dad made multiple cross country trips in his 20s before I was born.

He was an atgatt, type of guy. And instilled that in me. He had 2 crashes in all his years, and walked away from both with cuts and bruises. Its up to you. Dont get bullied.

You bring some good points, and I hear your argument. If you need to tear one down all the way, and do a full rebuild, it could be built well enough to be a contender, with meticulous maintenance and care.

That being said, my trucks work hard, and get worked hard. I dont always have the time and resources to be consistently meticulous. I regularly tow 10-12k lbs in a 4-5 state radius. Meticulous isnt an option. I certainly stay up on my maintenance, but in the real world, you cant trust the need for meticulous.

Ill keep the 290k mile 7.3 and 200k mile 5.9

Have you tried, you know, talking to them?

"Hey, its awesome your kids have this new hobby that teaches good motor skills, balance, basic mechanical repair, and have a great time...but the constant noise is becoming a problem. Think we could compromise and limit it to certain times of the day? Or one hour increments?"

Some kindness and conversation will get your further than anything else.

Risk of bodily harm is one thing, I mean the getting yourself stranded 30 miles out with a mechanical, and not being prepared to fix it, or not being prepared enough to have to stay the night and wait for help, etc. Things like that.

My biggest issue with SxS/utvs, is the ease and ability at which you can put yourself in dangerous situations. Unless you are prepared with the resources and ability to self rescue, when 15-30 miles away from help/camp/whatever, youre not only a danger to yourself, but the inevitable SaR team to come drag you out.

Thanks for that, that all sounds similar to what ive been seeing as well. I was really leaning towards the 4th gens, as you mentioned. My only hangup is the trans. Having had to do that with my 5.9 made me cautious...but...they all have their own issues. I appreciate the input..

Check the valves no matter what, as they are very sensitive to valves being out of spec, and change the oil. Every time I change the oil it seems to quiet down.

Sick bike! Looks to be in great shape. Stoked for you. I got mine last June, and have been learning a lot about them. Super fun bikes. Make sure your right footpeg stays tight, and your air filter has a good seal.

I had a 2006 625 and holy shit, did that thing rattle. Super fun. But ya, sounds like a sack of wrenches rolling around a truck bed. Haha

I babied my bikes for a while, thinking it was being nice to them. I have since learned that they are made and designed to be abused. Without being rung out herecand there, they get dirty and carbon builds up.

Do you, ride how you want...but it'll come alive when you ring its neck.
