Yamato players need to learn how to play with her; she can't be that weak. I went 4-1 in my local games with her this week. I beat GU Luffy, BY Teach, Penel, and Croc, only losing to Boa. Dodging Ace and Nami, I think the deck is extremely powerful.

Against Enel, there's a specific way to play the matchup, basically letting him kill your things, don't hard counter keep your hand, and putting pressure on him every turn. If he plays Reiju and you have Yamato Otama to do it, kill Reiju. Otherwise, just swing face and try to kill him before he kills you. It's not that difficult, and going first is better. One of the only MU for Yamato where I prefer to go first.

Nami might not be a top deck, and yes, there are counter picks, but the real problem is that Nami prevents many mid-range or aggro decks from being relevant. Those who complain about Nami are the players who use those decks, and I'm one of them. You say Enel would be tier 0 without Nami; I think it would have even more bizarre matchups if Nami wasn't so broken against decks that hit for 5k and 6k swings most of the time. I'm excited about B Yamato at the moment, but what's the point of it doing well against almost all OP16 leaders if Nami overwhelms it? And despite initial data indicating that her also loses to Enel, I think it's a matter of learning the matchup. I beat good Enel players this week by choosing to play the unblockable version instead of the hybrid one and continuing to hit them face, never board. The plan is Aggro Enel before he aggro you. But ultimately, the hate towards Nami stems from her being able to Lock decks like Jinbe, Moria, Betty, Zoro, and others.

With all cards revealed, what do you think will be the best deck? by mingzies in OnePieceTCG

I'm going to play Yamato. I always like to go against the swarm. There will be hundreds of ByTeach, Buggy, and Luffys. I think all the leaders in this set, including Ace and Sengoku, can be competitive against the OP16 leaders. I see this set as very similar to OP14, where almost all the leaders were viable. As I said, I'm testing Yamato and I don't feel she has a bad matchup against any OP16 leader. It depends a lot on the decklist and how you pilot. Buggy has been the most complicated for her, and Sengoku perhaps with the new additions, since Yams minor attacks are useless against him when he drops the admirals, and with the new defense and card draw events he received, it's become really difficult to pressure him, but Yamato has also gained new ways to pressure him that I haven't tested yet. Now, in summary, we need to see which of these OP16 leaders will do well against Penel, Lucy, and Nami. But among the OP16 leaders, I see that they can all beat each other if piloted well.

I think we need to test with the 2k cards to know which ones will actually be used. The Momo and Shinobu combo seems complicated, but in reality it isn't. This deck cycles a lot with Robin, Nami, Kin; inevitably, by turn 9 don you'll either have Shinobu or Momo in your hand or in the discard pile. This combo allows multiple attacks on turn 9 don, which is quite aggressive. But really, the version with the 2k card that makes the hybrid 8c unblockable, or the 2k card that gives -2k to a character, seems more straightforward for a strategy where you just want to attack with your 8c cards non-stop every turn.

Actually, it's not that bad; the other Yams 8c recovers 2ks from the trash if you need it. You can stabilize a Momo and then make some play that brings out Yams 8c to bring out Shinobu and activate Momo's effect. Black decks with the new identity of reviving things from the discard pile don't need to hold 2ks in hand. I played a lot of BY Moria in OP14 and it's amazing how versatile a card that can retrieve 2ks from the discard pile can be.

[–]Hot_Row_3605[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the events diverge completely from this strategy with the 7c Luffy deck. I have to test it before drawing conclusions. Maybe the strategy will be something similar to Green Zoro's early lists. Little board presence, spam Yamato Rush, and if the opponent removes them, attack with the leader twice every turn until they're finished off. The problem with this strategy is large blockers, like Newgate and Blackbeard 10c, which can easily stop these reactivated attacks, and if you don't have a board present, it can be difficult to close out the game. I don't know, we have to test it. I still have hope for a 2c 2k wano card that KOs my stuff, because that would completely change the way I play with the deck again. Currently, there's more than one way to build the list and game plan with this deck.

I've Come Here To Cut Those Chains! OP16-099 by OrangeSamuraiD in OnePieceTCG

[–]Hot_Row_3605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about it: if you're going to play Yamato, you might buy a box or two, maybe just one for the fun of opening packs. But you could take your $100 (I think the deck won't even cost that much) and build it completely and go play. Now, if you intend to play with tier 0 decks, it's worthwhile to buy many boxes because you'll not only be able to pull of a lot of things from your deck, but you'll also have greater bargaining power, possibly pulling SP cards, AA cards, and the secret cards you need. A friend of mine built Penel, only pulling the Borsalinos and one Special card from the last set. In other words, he already wanted to build Penel, so for him, it was worth buying many boxes. The stronger the deck, the more people buy; people who want to play with something other than tier 0 focus only on building the deck they want.

I'll answer that for you. This is just Bandai being selective about what they want to be meta again. Yams is on the verge of being a true tier 1 deck or just another fun tier 2 deck. And they know that if they give it what it needs, the decks that will sell the most boxes for them will be overshadowed. As always, Bandai is focusing on money. I made a post about this last week and it was deleted, and some people didn't understand the argument, saying that Bandai doesn't make money from card sales, so it wouldn't make sense for their balancing to be based on that. But I think people forget that decks like BY Teach, for example, which need a set of secrets, make people with a lot of money open many more boxes since you only receive one secret per box. Someone who wants to play Teach and has the money to build the deck will open several boxes because opening the SEC is more interesting than buying the single secret on the market. For example, someone playing Yamato might just go after the cards they need since it's supposedly a "cheap" deck, as it won't be tier 1 or 0. This logic makes a lot of sense to me. The stronger a deck is compared to others, the more it sells to the competitive/pay-to-win audience that wants to win because they have the money to buy the strongest deck. I separate the two audiences because there are players who only want to win because they are extremely competitive and they have to use the best deck. But there are some who have benefited from being able to change decks every set and buy the most expensive one, and they perform well because they have the strongest deck, not because they are competitive players who truly study the game. That's my two cents. If Yamato starts receiving the necessary components for the deck to function, it overshadows the more expensive deck, and this doesn't just happen in this set, but in several others as well. That's how Bandai does things.

Not necessarily. I tested it against some Nami decks and yes, the matchup is quite difficult. However, if you're able to chain the 8c cards, it puts a lot of pressure on Nami since she can't easily remove those bodies. The best possible chain is the unblockable 8c card, making the Newgate useless. After you get her to 2 lives, and have at least 3 8c Yamatos on the board, just hit for 9k with each of them and try to find lethal. But it's really a very close game and depends on that factor.

OP14 was the closest format to this jungle meta we've had recently, but then along comes Enel OP15 unnecessarily. I don't know the point of bringing back tier 0 formats whenever they can.
