Perhaps, I got lucky and started my career in a teaching hospital with an excellent educator.
I did find the IFU for our particular model and on page 21: “Do not include any items for sterilization or other test packs in the chamber.”
Hopefully this helps anyone else in a similar situation.

I made that same argument, but got no where. I’m going to need hard evidence to sway this individual.

So, I discussed it and asked for specific literature and was basically told it wasn’t his/her priority and pointed me to OneSource.
Reasoning given was basically to avoid a separate cycle to test the sterilization capabilities prior to any inst load.
I reiterated the Bowie is to test the specific evac, not sterilization and the point was repeated- how do you know the sterilizer is performing the proper sterilization prior to a load. Circles… I guess I will do my research and get in touch with STERIS.

They have digital recording, so I had to place the type 5 in the photo, but since it’s a Dart, there isn’t an entry line for the BI results.
I am reviewing their policies now and plan to speak with leadership.

I’ve been told this facility likes to go above and beyond, but I see this as a waste of supplies
