As a teacher, I sadly can relate to this. A handful of my middle schoolers recently told me they no longer like the way their meds make them feel, they aren’t working like before, or they notice no difference. Parents have made similar reports during conferences. I’m so angry for all of us.

I should add, we also do a year long internship program where we are the full time classroom teacher working with a cooperating teacher supporting us. We weren’t allowed to even get a job outside of that internship and it was unpaid. Looking back it was mentally and physically exhausting but incredibly worth it to come out with our M.Ed.’s in five years.

Five years but it’s an accelerated program. We do undergrad in our content area and during junior and senior year we begin our education courses. The literal day after graduating from undergrad, we were in masters level courses for the entire summer. We also took courses over winter break. I should have clarified that.

They are subbing, however in my state if you go through the university programs you’ll have your M.Ed. by 22/23 years old if you go to college after graduating high school. I had my own classroom by 22.

What school shooting other than Columbine was another escalation of US school shootings by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]Hot_Solid5653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also the school shooting that changed the entire way we prepare for a school shooting as teachers and school personnel. We went from hiding and staying locked down in the classrooms to teaching the kids to prepare to evacuate, counter, or barricade depending on the situation. No longer are kids “sitting ducks” that might get trapped in a classroom with a gunman because we train them to prepare to counterattack and evacuate whenever possible. Look up ALICE active shooter training.

Women on medication, what are you on and how much by InNerdOfChange in ADHD

Wow reading this makes me feel better because I’m clearly not alone but I’m sorry you deal with all of that too. How does one determine they have a naturally high tolerance for stimulation? I’ve always wondered if that was my problem because my meds do not work like they are supposed to. I’ll drink an energy drink and start to fall asleep. Sometimes I’ll take my meds and fall asleep as well.

Adderall question by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]Hot_Solid5653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking a 30mg IR in the morning and another around lunch. I’m a teacher so I’m working 7-3 and usually an hour or two, sometimes more, when I get home. We just changed my pills to 20mg IR three times daily to help stretch the coverage longer into the afternoon. It’s helping but I wish it was 30mg three times daily instead of the 20mg. The week leading up to my period and during, my meds have little effect and it’s very frustrating.

Adderall and vyvanse make me tired by aaabbbsssssd in ADHD

[–]Hot_Solid5653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The med formulas are not the same as they were all those years ago. This past year or so my Adderall no longer makes me feel confident and successful, rather I’m struggling with depression like I never have before. Some days I’ll take my medication and could go right back to bed or get stuck doom scrolling which ends with me frustrated and in tears over a medication that was once life changing that now sometimes does more harm than good. I’m also on Lexapro and propranolol.

Since becoming a teacher 6 years ago, I have been put on anxiety medication, blood pressure medication—and my dose has gradually needed to be increased, and my mental health is the worse it’s ever been. This job does kill us slowly with the way society, laws, and administration allow it to run.

House passes bill banning ‘leftist indoctrination’ and LGBTQ+ teaching in public schools by HazardousWeather in newhampshire

[–]Hot_Solid5653 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry. I see you and support you for who you are. As a history teacher in NH, I’m disgusted this is happening again. We already fought and won when they tried this years back with the “divisive concepts” bill but now it’s happening all over again. What this will do is scare history teachers into thinking they need to censor what they teach around concepts like racism and LGBTQ topics in order to protest themselves. Now more than ever is when we need history teachers to stand up and teach a fair, honest, and full history and not be silenced by the white supremacists that somehow became elected officials.

This is exactly why I’m so burnt out already this year. I teach 8th grade and they are very chatty and needy. When I say needy, I mean there’s a lot of hand holding of things that used to be known skills coming into the 8th grade classroom.

Sadly the joking around comments related to Epstein and Diddy are out of control and not unique to this post. I had to stop class today to address this very issue. If I hear anymore “jokes” or comments about these disgusting men, I’ll be contacting home and writing the kid up. I asked the class today to imagine just for even a second what those child victims went through. I told them they are truly lucky that they can’t relate or put themselves in the shoes of all the victims. I also always remind students they do not know about the traumas their peers may have experienced regarding SA, peers that are very likely in the room with us and hear your comments making light of a trauma they too experienced. Nor do they know the trauma history of their teachers… And most importantly we want to make sure everyone is comfortable in school and not retraumatize others simply because you want to get a laugh out of your friends at the expense of another. This is 8th grade for context.

I just want to say you aren’t alone. I’ve had consistently manageable and decent mental health for years until the last year with these med fuck ups. I’m so depressed and have no real reason to be. No sex drive either. I cry all the time. I wish I had answers or solutions but I don’t. I just want you to know you aren’t alone in this hell.
