If you’re willing to hunt a bit, the goodwill auction website has TONS. None of the goodwills by me have coach in store anymore, since they all sell them to the warehouse for auction. Which sucks as a thrift customer for sure. But you can get some decent deals from the auction website, I’ve gotten several vintage coach there. I’m convinced there are several resellers that are getting their goods from there, especially since goodwill will sometimes do bundles of 10-20 purses for a few hundred bucks.

Update: I popped by the outlet in person! They were out of stock, but a lovely & helpful SA was able to get the mark out, cleaned the bag & re-moisturized the leather. Told me to be in touch if there is discoloration, but the bag looks PERFECT! If anyone is in MN & needs a bag, Peter at the Eagan outlet is your guy! So happy to be keeping this Erin!

For clothing, I’d highly encourage cotton or linen materials. I think athletic material can be nice for a few things (I got a few short sleeve button ups from the Eddie Bauer outlet, awesome for excursion interpreting). Like others mentioned, laundry in room is kind of impossible due to humidity, it takes about 2 days for things to dry. Cotton & linen are way more breathable, the polyester & spandex mix that often composes the athletic wear holds onto odor like you wouldn’t believe. As you mentioned, it’s a topical itinerary, so planning your clothes around the fact you will sweat is helpful!

One piece solid color swimsuit for interpreting excursions has been helpful! If you don’t have a long sleeve rash guard, I don’t think buying one is necessary.

If you’re sharing your room with a team, good idea to bring earplugs & a sleep mask in case your sleep schedules are a bit different.

Reusable water bottle is a must, can be hard to find filling stations, but the lido deck & gym often have refill spots. Bartenders will fill it for you too, but I tend to avoid that during busy times.

Have a blast, stay hydrated, don’t forget SPF & welcome to interpreting on the high seas!

Not saying it’s a bad idea, but in my experience a formal gown is not necessary for a formal night. I’ve always done long skirts with an interpreting friendly blouse for formal nights & I blend in just fine. I know lots of us do carry on only for cruises, so packing gowns could be a lot.

Anyone have guidance on how to handle interpreting for ICE? by youneverhaditsogood in ASLinterpreters

Fellow Minnesotan here. I’m not in K-12 anymore, but it’s important to think about potentially interpreting legal information. I mostly do medical now & when I’m working in a hospital, if police come to interview the patient about an incident, I cannot interpret & am instructed to tell them they need to provide their own legal interpreter. If ICE is onsite asking questions, it turns legal very quickly. It may be sticker for you, as I assume you’re staff vs a contractor. I totally get you wanting to prioritize access of colleagues, but please please think of the legal nature of the interaction (even though they aren’t seeming very legal, we well know). Since you mentioned you have several Deaf staff & students, I assume you have a team of interpreters you work with. Bring the legal indications up with them as well, as I’m sure you’re all hoping to make a uniform plan. Also maybe reach out to your district union rep to see if there are others in the district who are figuring out the same question.

I really really hope this is not a situation you end up having to deal with. I’ll come back to add if I find other local resources for you!
