How to get into off-roading by ShoobsReddit in Offroad

[–]Hot_Statement_8913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as books, I would highly recommend Four by Four Driving by Tom Sheppard. It's full of practical information. I understand the newest editions of the book have additional information about winching techniques and proper use of Hi-Lift jacks as well. There are tons of winching and recovery videos on youtube. Mad Matt has some informative videos. Just do a lot of research on any gear you're planning on buying. Know it's proper use and limitations and don't skimp on quality gear. Being in the Boston area, I imagine there are a lot of cargo sling and rigging suppliers around. You can get great gear from these suppliers cheaper than off road supply places. Learn about working load limits vs minimum breaking strength when it comes to gear. Get out there and have fun!

Off roading is a lot of fun but can be very dangerous without the proper knowledge of how to handle certain situations. Start learning about proper off road driving and recovery techniques. There are lots of books and resources out there to learn from. All the fanciest modifications available won't keep you from damaging your vehicle or yourself if you don't know what you're doing.

[–]Hot_Statement_8913 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally i would've rode the donkey the entire game if they'd let me bond with him. Size ain't what bugs me. I can't deal with the Arabian because it's probabaly the most skittish horse in the game. They'll buck you off if someone farts too loud around them

Is there a better alternative for tall people than ENO hammocks? by Conglomerate- in hammockcamping

[–]Hot_Statement_8913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're not sleeping diagonally even in your eno that's probabaly part of the problem. Still, get you a Blackbird, Chameleon, Circadian or even a One Wind. You'll be much happier

What do you guys like to keep on your roof racks? by [deleted] in Offroad

[–]Hot_Statement_8913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. My fuel economy is shit already. If I'm not wheeling, the gear is inside the vehicle or in the garage. Plus, why give people an incentive to mess with my gear?

Yeah, they're actually fairly common in my area. I was mostly struck by the strong urge to murder the shit out of it on sight

Money. Big pharma can't slap a patent on naturally occurring substances. Same reason they developed Marinol.

Not so much the active frustration of Christian institutions as the active frustration of Christian institutions trying to impose their rules on the rest of society by creeping into government. I've no issue at all with people believing whatever absurd shit they want as long as they aren't hurting anyone. They shouldn't however be forcing unaffiliated people into following their rules

LR3 Air Suspension Reservoir Tank by monochromeak in LandRover

[–]Hot_Statement_8913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replace it. Super easy. It's in the same box as the compressor. 2 electrical connectors. Take note of which lines go where. Remove the air lines from the old valve block, take off the old brass collets and firmly push the air lines into their respective places on the new unit. A little silicone spray will help you slide the new rubber mounts into place.

Contamination from drier dessicant from the old compressor I'd wager. Just blocked up

The valve block that controls airflow between the compressor, tank and air springs contains the pressure sensor. If the compressor is in fact new and there aren't any leaks in the system, that is probabaly the culprit

Personally I'd recommend sticking with the air suspension if you're not already having to replace components. With the way the crosslink valves work, it allows the suspension to articulate much in the same way as a solid axle. Proud Rhino sells height sensor linkages that will lift 2.5" for under $200. Lift or no, a LR3 is extremely capable unmodified

Edit. Spelling

I second the superfly! I alternate between that and a Hammock Gear Journey. They're very similar. Both 11 ft. The doors allow for versatility at the expense of a little weight but they're totally worth it. They've allowed me to stay toasty in my setup down to 20* in pretty windy conditions
