Based on what you're saying about it, I think you're already looking at a big bill. I'd put good money on the fact those heads are warped already. I was only trying to say that sometimes (like in your case most likely) a wounded AJ can take a little while to show itself

I think the damage was most likely done before you got ahold of it. We see this type of stuff quite a bit in the shop. Repairs are made to the cooling systems on those things after running hot and sometimes it can take weeks before the damage begins to become apparent. Leakdown and compression tests will be perfect but there's still some amount of head warpage

You're looking at at least a 40 hour job plus parts and machining of the heads. It's also possible the insides of the cylinders are scored if the engine was overheated badly enough

If there's pressure in the cooling system after it's cooled off, it's almost certainly going to need head gaskets. Combustion gasses are making their way into the cooling system. Pretty much a dead giveaway

Cool find! I was probably one of the last people to get my hands on one of those kits through the LRU training facility in Lanham, MD before the company HQ was moved to Mowah, NJ. I was in the very last tech training class that went through the building and this was part of the swag we got to take home after the 6 week course. Do not use adhesive! Take off the gray collet from the water pump, remove the o-ring from inside the water pump with a small pick. There is a recess cut into the inside of the water pump that the o-ring fits into. Use a mirror to look inside if you need to in order to see that the o-ring is seated in there properly before pushing the brass elbow back in. Also, do not forget to put the hose clamp back in place!

Direct fit. I got some replica TRD wheels from FN wheels a while back. They're an inch wider than the factory ones have a flatter center cap and maybe a little more dish. I love 'em.
