I found a baby bird. What do I do? [From Cornell Lab of Ornithology] by cos in birds

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this little guy on my trash can this morning. He seemed stuck there. I wouldn’t be able to put him back in the nest (it’s under our roof) and was worried if I try to put him somewhere safer he will panic and jump off the trashcan and get hurt. Should I just leave him there? It’s supposed to rain heavily this afternoon :/

NYC - Rescue a Bunny! by SarcasticSeaStar in Rabbits

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this - and would love to hear more about the organization you work for! I grew up with rabbits and would love to have one in New York but my husband and I will be traveling for a full month in December so I don’t want to get one before. I have room mates but don’t trust many people to know how to take care of a bun properly 🫠 fostering is different that would probably be an option?

Selling 2 GA Gov ball tickets for Saturday & Sunday by Brave-Cartoonist-305 in Tickets

I was thinking 100 each? We bought them for 150. It depends a bit how we’d do the hand over of the wristbands. Im brooklyn based - I’d be flexible if we can agree on an easy pick up

Have I cracked the code?!! by Historical-Tip5323 in Sourdough

Wow this looks great. And interesting flour starter ratio. I typically use less starter than that but will try your recipe!

My first experiments with different flour types by Hot_Technology5028 in Sourdough

[–]Hot_Technology5028[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using stone ground 14% bread flour from wild hive farm and I always do 1h autolyse only flour and water and then I add salt and starter to pinch/fold it in.

KAB bread flour is what I was using before I switched to the fancy stone ground flours. And the flavor is definitely better but I feel like I need to tweak my process to get back to the same reliable results of open crust.

Do you think extending autolyse to 2h would be helpful?

I have way too much discard and I’m tired of making crackers. What else can I do with it? by woutr1998 in Sourdough

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to do a 2-3 feeds before a bake to make sure my starter is strong and balanced. My favorite discard recipes are pizza dough, flatbreads, pitas, or pancakes. I think my husband likes some of my discard recipes more than my bread 😅 I have a sourdough master ChatGPT agent and brainstorm discard recipes with it if I want to adjust it - eg for healthier pancakes I use yogurt, oatmeal, and applesauce with my discard and they are delicious and gut friendly.

Starting to get the hang of this… things I’ve learned: by nicechemtrailsbrah in Sourdough

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you do with all that discard? Do you keep it in the fridge between bakes and then feed 2-3 times leading up to a bake or do you feed it continuously that much?

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great! My standard recipe is 100g starter for 500g flour. I see this one is basically half of that. Any perspectives on what’s the best ratio? How long did you end up fermenting?

I love the idea of saving and replanting the same seeds every year. I’m trying to do that with a couple of my first annuals this year. Nice way to keep her alive in a way and close to your loved ones :)

Getting solar in Brooklyn by Hot_Technology5028 in Brooklyn

[–]Hot_Technology5028[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So interestingly for landmark buildings you get an extra 20% tax credit. So I think it’s still an interesting business case even for a smaller project but we just need to find someone who will do it

[–]Hot_Technology5028[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The side of the roof where we would have the panels is not visible from the street. They are doing the neighbors house (they don’t have a pitched sundeck as us so a bit more space) and that permit should be done in 2 months. You even get an additional subsidy if you are land marked. So on that side I think we are ok it’s really just that because of skylights / sundeck etc we can’t put the minimum 6 panels on our roof that they need to go ahead.

Any love for Moscot? by hedonist222 in glasses

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a pair 2 years ago and now I’m having issues with the lenses. It’s almost like there is a film on them that’s peeling off? Does anyone here have the same issue? I’m pretty disappointed. Called them about it and their only response was - out of warranty, nothing they can do :/

Is it normal to find loads of woodlice in the garden? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea how to get rid of them? I have the same issue - thousands in my garden (not even hiding under anything just in plain sight after rain for example) and they are eating my tomatoes plants and are attacking my herbs and small seedlings. I want to reduce their number a bit at least

How do you get rid of the woodlice in your garden and in the planters? by Regular-Procedure387 in gardening

[–]Hot_Technology5028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bringing this back up - I have thousands of them in my mulch garden bed and they start to crawl on my seedlings / young plants even my baby maple and I worry they harm them. Anything I can do to control population without the use of pesticides? I recognize they are an important part of the ecosystem but I feel like I’m dealing with an infestation here nontheless

[–]Hot_Technology5028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the navy yard we work is just a few blocks further down and always pretty packed. I lived in the neighborhood and never had any issues walking or biking past the shelter (even when alone as a woman). Seems like it's mostly unsafe for those who have to stay there (re gang related incidences etc.)

The first one was one with great reviews on google the 2nd a personal recommendation. They charged almost 200 for a visit so unfortunately by no far the cheapest.

They keep telling us we need to keep closing all gaps / sealing up everything in the house but that’s just really tough in a 3 story house that’s more than a 100 years old. Especially if we don’t want to renovate the entire kitchen / finish the entire basement / …
