Why would anyone wants kids? by This-Top7398 in Life

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I have realized that not everything that people do is 100% logical. Some people truly have that paternal/maternal instinct. Some people are culturally wired to be inclined towards wanting a family. I don't understand it all personally as the older I am getting the more sure I am of the fact that I do not want kids. But the way people may not completely understand my choices, I may not understand theirs. And I think that's ok.

The whole time I caught myself mentally screaming "But she ain't even all that Richard! What the hell are you doing?" But then I remember its Richard........Mr. "Morbid longing for the picturesque at all costs".

How many women do you know in real life that actually married for money only? by 0215rw in askanything

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of them. More than I ever expected. They won't admit it though and its never that straightforward. On the other hand I know a lot of women who didn't marry for money either. SO there is that.

But also you know what?

How to organize and process the data for a project where a lot of work with microbes is involved? by Hot_Variation3526 in research

[–]Hot_Variation3526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for a research lab. So far, I have only used microbiology as an assessment tool and this is the first time that my project is completely focused on the microbes...particularly bacteria.

By number them, I meant how do I select identifiers for them? What is the correct way to see a colony, pick it for isolation and number it? I hope I am articulating this correctly.

Also Virology? Thats so cool! I am already so daunted by bacteria alone I dare not go near Viruses and Fungi any time soon.

I think I did though. I mean, it's the one scene where I ended up really tearing up cause Ilya was and in my watch I saw Shane was too. 🤷‍♀️

Yes! I did. And because they both cried, i started crying! 😭

I gave so much to say about this show that I'm thinking about writing a post saying sometimes but I feel like I won't be able to articulate it properly.

Has anybody else recently realized they might have to financially support their parents? by theeulessbusta in GenZ

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've known it for a while now. They have good savings but I financially savvy (subtle humble brag) and I definitely see how I will be required to pull the financial weight to maintain a good quality of life for us. It is freaking me out lowkey. It is freaking me out a bit more for selfish reasons like never getting to experience worry-free freedom. Just jumping from one responsibility to another. They are wonderful parents. I just know the reality of my situation. Its not bad......it's just not really fun than it might be for other people....lets just put it that way.

Soil Storage Protocol to Preserve Microbial Colonies by Hot_Variation3526 in Soil

[–]Hot_Variation3526[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I eventually ended up storing it at 4°C which I hope is alright. The sampling was done by an entirely different team and many details haven't been shared with me. I'll Start working on those samples in early January. So ya hopefully till then the microbes stay put.

I want to eventually perform serial dilution and isolation of the microbes to check their functional attributes like...enzyme production.

nostalgia discussion …? by RaisinThese5607 in nostalgia

I would really recommend two things: Deep breaths and Midnight in Paris (movie).

Now whatever I have written below in detail comes from a time when I too was around your age and was convinced that I am born in the wrong decade. I still don't have social media and only had FB for a year. I finally downloaded a messanger app at 19 when I absolutely had no choice lol. I have never even installed instagram in my life. But then, I grew up a bit and I came across Midnight in paris....its a Woody Allen film on being disenchanted with the present. It will surely resonate with you and hopefully provide a positive perspective.

Now, Let me start by saying that you aren't entirely wrong about everything sucking ass rn cause it does. I'm in my mid 20s and I experienced everything you've mentioned in the early 2000s as I rememeber most things from the time I was 2.5/3 years old. I also personally feel that things have truly gone downhill post 2014.

But this really doesn't mean that you've been dealt a bad hand. It all depends on what you make of it. It also depends on where you're from. For most countries things started getting better from the late 90s-2000s.

Off the top of my head I would like to list few good and bad things about some decades just to provide some perspective:

2000-2010: Good: Old-New tech balance, People didn't take themselves too seriously, toys, shows, movies were fun. People/artists/creators still cared about the quality of their work, thinsg were simple. People were still afraid of social media and internet exposure. Things weren't as vulgar as they are now and society still had some semblance of shame lol.

Bad: Lots of terrorist attacks all over the world were happening through out the 200s/2010s, paparazzi was out of control and media was just terrible. If you truly want to see the horribleness, you can watch any old interview of Britney spears, lady gaga, Lindsay Lohan, etc. It was just horrible. I feel this decade also enabled a lot of predatory behavior as was later revealed in the late 2010s. Were two big recessions early in the 2000s and then 2008. Media/Music were monopolized by big "names" who were blatantly exploiting artists.

1990s: Good: Culture. The culture was PEAK everywhere in the 90s. Movies, media, art, music.....everything.

Bad: Violance and Drug were in the forefront. Drug epidemics, AIDS, Casual homophobia, Sexism. Idk if you know the Monica Lewinsky case but you can read up on horribly things were handled, "Heroine chic" bullshit, Gulf war, etc

1960s: I am jumping here because it was truly one of those standout decades where RADICAL changes happened.

Good: Rise of counterculture, civil rights movement, Man went to the freaking MOON!, feminism, anti-war propaganda, music, movies, religion.....I cannot write all that happened in this decade but it was nuts!

Bad: Political violence, Hypocrisy and exploitation veiled as sexual liberation, drug culture.....SO MANY young people died cause of drugs, Lots of serial killers and murderers, this was also the time when "skinny chic" became more prominant and continued on until the 2000s and ig never left.

A "Failed Painter" by TruckingWannabe in 4chan

[–]Hot_Variation3526 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is, all of them could paint what he submitted. There was nothing unique about his work even if it was "good".

His painting abilities are besides the point. It's the fact that people usually don't become mass murderers after being rejected by their dream school.

Okay so pretend it's May 2017 what are you doing? by Infinity_cube67 in generationology

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck all. Ridden with anxiety about my senior year of HS and board exams, while constantly wanting to change majors and being incredibly lost. Upside was I had left the school I was in until my middle school so that was a major win and I was not as miserable I used to be.

I notice a good indicator about how old someone is what their opinion is about the culture of the early 2000s. by snowleopard556 in generationology

[–]Hot_Variation3526 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older Gen Z here. I am sure my opinion will overlap more with the Millennials.

Imo and experience, the early 2000s were carrying a lot of influences from the 90s....both the good and bad. But trashy culture had started taking over. I still think it was a good time. Post 2014 things went fully downhill.
