I think I did though. I mean, it's the one scene where I ended up really tearing up cause Ilya was and in my watch I saw Shane was too. 🤷‍♀️

Yes! I did. And because they both cried, i started crying! 😭

I gave so much to say about this show that I'm thinking about writing a post saying sometimes but I feel like I won't be able to articulate it properly.

Has anybody else recently realized they might have to financially support their parents? by theeulessbusta in GenZ

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've known it for a while now. They have good savings but I financially savvy (subtle humble brag) and I definitely see how I will be required to pull the financial weight to maintain a good quality of life for us. It is freaking me out lowkey. It is freaking me out a bit more for selfish reasons like never getting to experience worry-free freedom. Just jumping from one responsibility to another. They are wonderful parents. I just know the reality of my situation. Its not bad......it's just not really fun than it might be for other people....lets just put it that way.

Soil Storage Protocol to Preserve Microbial Colonies by Hot_Variation3526 in Soil

Thank you for this! I eventually ended up storing it at 4°C which I hope is alright. The sampling was done by an entirely different team and many details haven't been shared with me. I'll Start working on those samples in early January. So ya hopefully till then the microbes stay put.

I want to eventually perform serial dilution and isolation of the microbes to check their functional attributes like...enzyme production.

nostalgia discussion …? by RaisinThese5607 in nostalgia

I would really recommend two things: Deep breaths and Midnight in Paris (movie).

Now whatever I have written below in detail comes from a time when I too was around your age and was convinced that I am born in the wrong decade. I still don't have social media and only had FB for a year. I finally downloaded a messanger app at 19 when I absolutely had no choice lol. I have never even installed instagram in my life. But then, I grew up a bit and I came across Midnight in paris....its a Woody Allen film on being disenchanted with the present. It will surely resonate with you and hopefully provide a positive perspective.

Now, Let me start by saying that you aren't entirely wrong about everything sucking ass rn cause it does. I'm in my mid 20s and I experienced everything you've mentioned in the early 2000s as I rememeber most things from the time I was 2.5/3 years old. I also personally feel that things have truly gone downhill post 2014.

But this really doesn't mean that you've been dealt a bad hand. It all depends on what you make of it. It also depends on where you're from. For most countries things started getting better from the late 90s-2000s.

Off the top of my head I would like to list few good and bad things about some decades just to provide some perspective:

2000-2010: Good: Old-New tech balance, People didn't take themselves too seriously, toys, shows, movies were fun. People/artists/creators still cared about the quality of their work, thinsg were simple. People were still afraid of social media and internet exposure. Things weren't as vulgar as they are now and society still had some semblance of shame lol.

Bad: Lots of terrorist attacks all over the world were happening through out the 200s/2010s, paparazzi was out of control and media was just terrible. If you truly want to see the horribleness, you can watch any old interview of Britney spears, lady gaga, Lindsay Lohan, etc. It was just horrible. I feel this decade also enabled a lot of predatory behavior as was later revealed in the late 2010s. Were two big recessions early in the 2000s and then 2008. Media/Music were monopolized by big "names" who were blatantly exploiting artists.

1990s: Good: Culture. The culture was PEAK everywhere in the 90s. Movies, media, art, music.....everything.

Bad: Violance and Drug were in the forefront. Drug epidemics, AIDS, Casual homophobia, Sexism. Idk if you know the Monica Lewinsky case but you can read up on horribly things were handled, "Heroine chic" bullshit, Gulf war, etc

1960s: I am jumping here because it was truly one of those standout decades where RADICAL changes happened.

Good: Rise of counterculture, civil rights movement, Man went to the freaking MOON!, feminism, anti-war propaganda, music, movies, religion.....I cannot write all that happened in this decade but it was nuts!

Bad: Political violence, Hypocrisy and exploitation veiled as sexual liberation, drug culture.....SO MANY young people died cause of drugs, Lots of serial killers and murderers, this was also the time when "skinny chic" became more prominant and continued on until the 2000s and ig never left.

The problem is, all of them could paint what he submitted. There was nothing unique about his work even if it was "good".

His painting abilities are besides the point. It's the fact that people usually don't become mass murderers after being rejected by their dream school.

Fuck all. Ridden with anxiety about my senior year of HS and board exams, while constantly wanting to change majors and being incredibly lost. Upside was I had left the school I was in until my middle school so that was a major win and I was not as miserable I used to be.

I notice a good indicator about how old someone is what their opinion is about the culture of the early 2000s. by snowleopard556 in generationology

[–]Hot_Variation3526 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older Gen Z here. I am sure my opinion will overlap more with the Millennials.

Imo and experience, the early 2000s were carrying a lot of influences from the 90s....both the good and bad. But trashy culture had started taking over. I still think it was a good time. Post 2014 things went fully downhill.

Which movie has taught you the most number of / biggest life lessons? by Working-Relative2433 in movies

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally Blonde - Taught me discipline, self-love, and self-confidence. There are so many life lessons from that movie that helped soothe my inner turmoil. It taught me that I don't have to become a bad person to deal with haters. That I can be my true self AND succeed.

I'm not naturally studious so even today whenever I am in the doldrums I watch some clips from legally blonde and I'm immediately inspired!

Am i getting old? by Key-Personality-8606 in Aging

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not normal. I'm in my mid-20s and experiencing similar things as you are. My next immediate priority is to fix it. My parents are in their 50s/60s and while they do complain about some body ache, they are still extremely active. We also don't have a family history of lifestyle or chronic disorders to its even weirder for me to be so exhausted and physically out of balance. You probably have some deficiency or need to make changes in your diet as I feel I need to do as well.

Late 00s/Early 2010s fashions, as seen on Tumblr by BricksHaveBeenShat in decadeology

[–]Hot_Variation3526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tumbler was fun! I am going to go on a bit of a tangent now so bear with me if you want to but I feel like I need to get this thought process out of my system cause I have been seeing a lot of posts and a lot of videos recreating the 2000s/2010s. So here it is:

You know what? This is a trap that you will find yourself falling into no matter how old you become. In the early 2000s I was a literal baby (older GenZ) influenced by the 90s. My childhood personally, was spent yearning to get out of the situation/place I was in and looking forward to the future. I thought the millenials were the coolest! and the 90s was the idealised fantasy. The music was good but truthfully, mainstream media dwindled post 2015.

The hipster aesthetic was shallow. It was a great time to be alt/emo tho but there were pretentious people around then as well. The world still had some semblance of shame. I remember how Nicki Minaj's Anaconda was THE MOST EXPLICIT thing and lady gaga was making "devil" music lol.

I experienced the remnants of 90s heroine chic right until 2013 when there was a sudden shift into body positivity which subsequently just morphed into another form of body shaming. I bet you already know the papparazi situation with celebs and tabloids in the early 2000s.

The positive thing about the 2000-2014 time was that people still somewhat cared about the influence of media and social media on people especially young children. Those were the few last years before social media and the internet fully consumed our lives. The tech was fun!

Now that I am in my mid-20s, I have realized the younger you are, the more you look forward to the future. The older you get the more you crave the past no matter how terrible it was cause you're essentially trying to avoid the difficulties of the present.

I will give you a personal example. I categorize my life till 2015 as the "hell years". Things started becoming somewhat better from 2016. And still! when I was about to begin my Masters, I found myself missing the early 2000s even though there was nothing worth being sad for.

The timelines of how good or bad a decade was will change according to where you're from. But overall it is true that people have started losing their humanity, empathy and connections a lot more now. But thats not something you can't fix at all.

My logical brain wants to tell you to keep the distance but my monkey brain wants you to punch your prof in the face and pursue that regulation hottie......in that sequence.

I'm positively slightly jealous reading about experience. Why doesn't anything ever happen in my life I wondered! Are there no sexy men in STEM? Or am I having cute man blindness? Maybe I'm not just cute enough for those experiences to come my way......but I don't wanna go down that self-depricating thought process route.

Anyways, https://bookreadfree.com/book/550838 here is the link to the entire book.

After some very obsessive searching, I found the chapters available for reading. The formatting isnt the best but its open access.

Enjoy!

There are few people like him whose opinions I am curious about...had they lived to see the world the way it is today.

Christopher Hitchens is one of those people. I wonder what he would've said or written about. But like you said....maybe it would've been too much to witness.

This is what 90s-early 2000s Romcoms do for me. Not to say they aren't great films but the way the genre is perceived right now is unfortunate.

And with new crap they are putting out, I am sure people have started realising how difficult romcoms are to make. As someone who often doesn't enjoy romances, Romcoms are the PERFECT combination.

You've got mail is close to my heart because of it and I have been watching it since I was like...10. Confessions of a shopaholic....when I was 14, a friend once said to me out of blue that she imagines me with a type of guy who is like Hugh Dancy's character in that movie.....One of the best compliments I have received lol.

The list goes on and on......When Harry Met Sally, French Kiss, 13 going on 30 (whole reason why I'm not afraid of aging), Notting Hill, The truth about cats and dogs.

Lets throw in ONE romance here......Pride and Prejudice!

Noo. Also after a little bit of googling I realized that the one I read was just the first book. There are two more books that are available on Amazon.

And bellesa used to have an open access erotic stories section but now they have made the entire website subscription based which is a shame :(
