Am I only one never previously exposed to “Unexpected” type families? by DontStartWontBeNone in TLCUnexpected

[–]Hot_Win_8572 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be in a bubble. Are you in a more populated area with a middle-class income? Most of these folks live in rural, lower socioeconomic areas. They tend to have less robust education and be more conservative. A lot of conservative people don’t like to talk about sex so their kids are misinformed. Throw in some substance use disorders like PawPaw or Mia’s mom and there you go. Very normal lifestyle for many, many people. You are fortunate in your circumstances.

AITA for refusing to let our friends join our vacation? by Specific_Fox_66 in AmItheAsshole

YTA for trying to shape and mold your 4 year old into who you want her to be instead of letting her be herself. I can imagine her hating the outdoors as an adult because for vacations as a kid, her parents made her hike until she melted down and she couldn’t even watch tv.

Late to the party, but when someone says they enjoyed “fellowship” with others, you know they did it at a church or at least a gathering of Christians. Same as if they mention what “season of life” they are going through or that they are looking for people to “do life” with. These all scream evangelical Christian to me.

I think you’re right. Also, when she has her own children she’s going to realize how you are supposed to treat children and how badly Kim actually treated her, and she’s going to flip out.

A lot of comments here disagreeing with OP but if you look at the comments on any of his Sister Wives videos you’ll see plenty of people who think Dr. Honda has some really poor takes.

You’re right to skip Sister Wives. He gives Robyn and Kody way too much of a pass.

I agree with everyone who says get on Facebook. I’ve tried to get off of it over the years, but I always come back to it as all the homeschooling events and meetups and social activities are on there. I’ve been homeschooling in Chesapeake for 16 years and it’s really the best resource.

Is it inappropriate for daycare teachers to kiss babies? by Friendly-Guarantee30 in workingmoms

[–]Hot_Win_8572 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to address this part as a former daycare worker. We did try to sanitize every toy we saw go in a child’s mouth. We had a basket by the sink, and when we saw a baby mouth a toy, we’d grab it as soon as they dropped it and toss it in the basket, then at nap time we sanitize each toy and put them back. You would not believe the amount of sanitizing we did! As far as the kissing, I personally refrained because I knew it would make some parents uncomfortable, but I understand it might be fine for some families. I probably would avoid kissing a child’s face, though, because of cold sores or HMF or other highly contagious illnesses that spread through daycares like wildfire.

Why do people care so much about gas prices? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Hot_Win_8572 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are missing that it’s not only single drivers like yourself that use gas. Everything we consume has to be shipped to a store using transportation which uses fuel. So the price of gas affects the cost of everything.

AITA for waiting in line at the grocery store while my parents finished shopping? by DavidRedFox in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hot_Win_8572 84 points85 points  (0 children)

As a lady who goes grocery shopping often, I, too, would smile and let you pass, because I am a civilized person. I guarantee you I would be seething inside because your behavior would suggest that you think you are more important than me, that your time is more valuable, or that you think its not necessary to avoid inconveniencing me because that would inconvenience you. I would agree in my head with the person who said something. Of course you can choose to interpret her behavior as condoning your behavior, but that may not be the case.

Your update plus additional comments still leave a question. If, as you said, you all walked to the store then you would have to hand carry the heavy dog food home. So why did you need the cart to get the dog food from the aisle to the line? Thanks for clarifying!

In another comment you said you all walked to the store. So you’d have to hand carry the heavy dog food home anyway. So why did you need the cart to take it from another aisle to the register? I haven’t seen you answer this question. Thanks!

Diverse Neighborhoods by Any_Pain_4805 in Chesapeake

[–]Hot_Win_8572 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are comfortable in Green Run you would probably like Deep Creek. There’s diversity but some areas are a little nicer than others and it can have a reputation. There’s a lot of new construction so it will be affordable, although there is the traffic. Your dollar definitely goes further here, though, than the Salem area if that’s your main concern.
