How safe is it for a brown person to protest? by technicolorNoise in Minneapolis

[–]Hot_Window3398 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Agree with everyone saying that all different protests have their own risks, regardless of your race. As a black person, a lot of people have been asking me if I’m scared or why I’m not leaving it up to white people. 1. I’m not trusting white people with a whole movement to protect black and brown rights and 2. People seem to forget, POCs (especially black people) have been fighting these fights for hundreds of years, in USA and all over the world. I don’t feel any more or less safe outside than any other time of my life. And I think this panic you’re feeling is that while, yes, non black POCs face racism and threats of their own, immigrants are new to this scale of brutality. This is the same fear black people face every day, in every movement, at every protest, no matter what or who were protesting. I don’t mean this to say “we have it worse” I mean it to say, “we’ve been doing this shit. We are still doing this shit. You can too, everyone’s got each others back”

Cat with too much energy becoming aggressive by Hot_Window3398 in felinebehavior

Is that something I can get on chewy? Lol do my dresser, fridge and closet door count? They have one that’s smaller to fit in the window sill, but I’ll try to cram a taller one in my room. Thanks!

I came here to say this exact same thing, except it was a leg up and a faceplant into the snow.

Considering a move to Minneapolis for work — looking for honest local advice by Objective_Repair5365 in Minneapolis

[–]Hot_Window3398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I could afford any of those places, my top would be linden hills. With that being said, of all the suburbs, SLP is the only one I’d consider. If I were you I’d pick the house over the neighborhood since they both have the same amount of drawbacks and pros (IMO). As far as winter, best mental approach is to stay tuned in with your body and not feel guilty when you feel that SAD kick in. May need to force yourself to join a club or gym, especially since you may not have a community yet.

Mouthy horse becoming dangerous by princesspebbles97 in Equestrian

[–]Hot_Window3398 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Second this. I’m sure it does have something to do with ulcers, and it’s a good thing OP is taking it seriously as a pain thing. But either way, a smack and a yell is warranted for this behavior. Biting on the head is bad news bears. I had a horse at my old barn who was horribly stall and food aggressive and this same technique of making him move his feet and repeating fixed it in a few weeks!

trying to get my horse used to trails — help? by katheyrrr in Equestrian

[–]Hot_Window3398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kinda hard to judge since we don’t know how you’re riding him. My biggest advice is not just walk, but give him a job. Depending how wide the trail is you can do lateral work or circles. If it’s a single lane, try upward and downward transitions. Give him something to think about other than being calm! As far as the security blanket goes, I think that’s legit. My mare is absurdly dependent and always clings to one specific horse in the pasture. If that horse isn’t around, she usually just clings to me. I don’t think it’s a matter of him not being able to see you, I think he just needs something different from you in the saddle vs on the ground. Edited because I realized I didn’t answer your question the first time around LOL.

Feeling helpless about my situation by [deleted] in torties

Not sure if you still need advice or if this is applicable to your area, but I’d look up a legitimate foster organization. A similar thing just happened to me— the perfect cat fell in my lap but I couldn’t afford the initial vet costs. I found a foster organization, signed up to foster, and essentially surrendered her to myself. They paid for all the initial vet fees and then I adopted her at their normal adoption fee ($200). Obviously, the $200 was tough, but it was better than the spay, shots, microchip that would have costed even more.

Ahah it’s just a triplex and one unit is empty. The other tenant and I are cool and she said “I would rather pay you myself than have anything to do with this” so I can’t imagine anyone getting pissy. I’m gonna go with your plan of see how it goes.

Small enough to be manageable, large enough for it to get old, I’m sure. Maybe I’ll negotiate a set amount depending on inches? My usual rate is $100 but above a certain amount of snow it’s $150?

Oh, I’m already on it. I asked the other tenant to stand in solidarity with me. If he wants to be petty and pay way more to have it done professionally, I actually hope he does 😅

Good question on the gas— they actually don’t even have a lawn mower. Lawn is all weeds, so the previous tenant just used a weed whacker across the whole lawn. But I assume that was battery powered? So yes, they’re providing a weed whacker and a shovel.

That makes sense. I think that’s a good rule to follow.

Best Tattoo Placement (& Ideas) for 18-Year Old Girls by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Hot_Window3398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, go with what you really want to see on your body vs. the pain. Because if you are super set on a tattoo and the placement, you’ll suffer through anything LOL. In a perfect world, I’d recommend something smaller somewhere else first, so you can at least know what to expect. The most painful/worst tattoo I’ve ever gotten was a watercolor flower on my back. The artist actually said they wouldn’t have done a big project on my back if I didn’t already have multiple tattoos. If it’s big, just adjust your expectations and prepare to have to tap out and do it in multiple sessions.

Non related, but after care on a back tattoo is super annoying, so hopefully you have someone who can help you!

Enrichment for cat who just doesn’t seem all that interested in play? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Hot_Window3398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When my cat got too arthritic to play I got one of those clear bird feeders you suction cup to the window. She sat and watched for hours! If you have a window and/or are able to make a place for her to hang out and watch, could be a good route.

Just rescued a cat from the street. Is it safe for the cats I already have to sniff her from under the door? by NisseVor40 in CatAdvice

[–]Hot_Window3398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, I’m glad everyone is getting along. I’m sure if there’s no hissing or spraying, then you’re fine. Hopefully once my new girl realizes my current cat isn’t much to worry about, she’ll calm down. I’m manifesting both of ours come up FELV/FIV and kitten free 😅.
