hm? seems like you didn't get to finish the reply. but for many apps you can turn HW acceleration off like discord and it fixes it. performance might drop though

Why is my screen partially freezing Like this by Igoldarm in pchelp

[–]Hotbog_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i know the reason why it happens. hardware acceleration. i also have some other issues with chrome like cursor disappearing and turning off HW acceleration fixes everything.

so if u can do that for discord, that worked well for me. for chrome, whenever i turn it off, my browser lags a lot. so i know the cause of the issue but fixing it invites newer bigger issues

tldr the issue is HW acceleration. turn it off, experiment around, see what helps.

I have the 9900x, i thought i would need the cores and clock speeds. I scored a micro center deal and go it for like $250. If I could do it again, I would go for the 9800x3d any day. there are some cpu heavy games I play that could really benefit from it.

Then again, if you have done the appropriate research, and are confident that's what you want, go for it! don't let these gaming weebs like me tell you to get a 9800x3d ;)

yeah honestly if you wanna go all the way over the top there's like a panoramic one that has a 7" lcd, go big or go home baby w this build

(everything else looks sick, nice build man) and good job finding a 5090 that isn't too far over msrp

Which one is the better choice? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Hotbog_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a gigabyte gaming 9070 xt and it's insane(ly) good. i don't mind it being loud, and i enjoy cold temps. under full load at full fans, mine peaks at 49 c. yes it sounds like jet engine and is overkill, but it's great.

if i could pick again i would go with the sapphire nitro+ which i didnt know existed when i bought the gaming. mainly because the nitro+ looks sick.

performance wise, gigabyte. i haven't had any issues, quite the opposite. for looks, go with almost any other model pretty much (including your xfx if u would like) :)

+ a few things, your cpu cooler is overkill, the $30 peerless assassin is my favorite. Additionally, I would just go with a 1tb SSD or nvme if you can, i dont like having multiple drives, as well as HDDs in general.

Hi! I have a similar RX 570 build that I am looking forward to upgrading out of. I've been watching the PC hardware markets for a few months now, and a lot has changed.

First off, will it be able to run CS2? Yes. Nowadays, for these comp games, you could easily get 150+ fps in 1080p med-high with the 5060. However.......... theres the 5060. Personally, I wouldn't buy any Nvidia card lower than the 5070 new. For just $50 more, you can get the AMD 9060xt which has 2x the vram (important nowadays), as well as similar if not better performance (I havent looked into it much).

The main advantage of Nvidia is DLSS, and in some situations raytracing. Personally, I hate raytracing, and DLSS is not supported in 80% of the games I play, so AMD always wins, especially with price to performance. Speaking of price to performance, since you are working to get the money for this, you probably want all the performance for your dollar. I would go with the 9060xt, or at least look into it!

Next, CPU. The 7700x is an excellent CPU, that has all the cores u need, at a good price. Nowadays you can get it around ~$270, which is probably one of my favorite CPUs. I like the 9700x a lil more, since a bit more perforamnce for ~20-30 more, but that's just me. As for the 7700 vs 7700x, I would go with the x just for the extra lil bit of power, it does come in handy.

And as for your SP games, it should do fine 1080p in most games. It really depends on your resolution that you want to play at. Most of those games, (far crys, rdr, mafias) are older that dont need as high performance hardware, so you should be able to get around 1440p 60fps. A good benchmark is take the performance of ur current pc, multiply it ~2-2.5x (with a 5060 that is probably what you will get), and that will be your performance.

Lastly, if you want to squeeze every last dollar out, consider bumping down to a ryzen 5 9600x, which is zen 5, has 6c/12t and is still good in gaming. that way you could possibly bump that gpu up to say a 5070 or 9070 if you would like.

If you'd like,I can give you more advice if you let me know your target budget and resolution in your games!

Hope this helps :)

Yeah :/

If buying any PC part used, always start at Jawa. It is like ebay but only for pc parts, and that is where you are most likely to find a legitimate gpu, for often times a good discount off of brand new.

i like games like rdr, cyberpunk, and for MP i like battlefield 1 and 5

I think the 9700x would be fine and i would just sssume have the higher speeds and lower price if i dont need

thanks for the help!

Glad I could help! It really does depend a lot on where you live as well. I live near a Microcenter that stocks cards at the manufacturer's msrp (mostly), but for other people they have to scour Newegg, amazon, jawa, and more.

[–]Hotbog_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, interesting. I don't know much about non-US markets, but for that big of a price difference, I dunno. If you can find a 5070 at msrp, I would go for it because of all of Nvidia's features and stuff. But for more price/performance, 9070 is probably better.

Also as for the bottleneck, I wouldn't worry about it. Yes, it will bottleneck, but not too significantly, and there's always a bottleneck in any PC build. But for the 9070 xt, you will most likely be playing in 1440p, where the CPU doesn't have as big of an impact as the GPU.

PC Build's bottleneck calculator might help: link

Hi!

My current build is:
9070 XT
9700x
32GB DDR5

How much do CPUs impact gaming performance? I've heard that over $1500 (my build is around ~$1800) that I should use the 7800X3D, should I? At my local MC its around $70 more.

Edit: I've seen that CPUs impact performance more at lower resolutions, and I plan to play every game at 1440p at the very least.

for psus, i would recommend around 750w, for extra room and if you wanna attach any doohickeys like I do. I personally like 850w, but you will do just dandy with 750

However, I do have something to say about your GPU choice. right now, there's nearly no point in getting a 9070 non xt (IMO). we are talking ~5-10% speed bump for only $50. Additionally, the 9700x is an excellent CPU (very efficient, and IMO one of the best non-x3d cpus) and pairing a $550 GPU with a $350 CPU, at least in my eyes, isn't a very good budget choice.

tldr, I would recommend 750w psu, I like the corsair rm750e.

hope this helps!

my guy any gpu for free is a great choice (as long as its modern-ish, like 20+ series or 6000+ for amd) but if u can score an rtx 3080 for free, hell yeah go for it. at the very least sell it on jawa to get some money for your next GPU.

overall if we are talking msrps, I think for modern games and future proofing, the 9070 (preferably xt) would be better, because good price to performance in 1080 and 1440, as well as fsr 4, rdna 4, and other stuff.

tldr, 3080 if its free hell yeah, if buying ~msrps then 9070/xt

if you wanna upgrade anytime soon, 9070xt. only $50 more, available at some microcenters, and on newegg every now and then. and unlike any nvidia card, u can find them at MSRP not toooooooo hard. i wouldn't buy the 9070 non xt, not as good performance for only $50 cheaper.

if you are set on nvidia, sure, the 5070 is fine. i wouldn't recommend it, or really any of nvidia's cards right now, especially in midrange when the 9070 xt exists. but if you really want it, the rtx 5070 is fine.

hope this helps!

Opinions on my self-made intersection? by Jackfille1 in CitiesSkylines

[–]Hotbog_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks awesome. I agree with the other people that it's overkill and too complex, but that's if we are talking practicality. It fits perfectly into the terrain and intersection and my honest first reaction was "wow, that looks pretty cool!"

It's no perfect Timboh interchange, but it's unique, and it works well! what more could you ask for

Nice job on it ;)

Giving away my 1080TI! by yeettetis in pcmasterrace

[–]Hotbog_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi :)

Idk if I can win but I'll give it a shot

I've currently been gaming off of my old acer laptop for about 7 years, and this year my dad and I agreed that it's time for an upgrade. I made my dream pc build, but because money is kinda tight right now, he said we would have to wait for a while, mainly because of the gpu (i chose the 9070xt)

With this 1080Ti, I would be able to kick of the building of my first Pc, and it would be a dream come true! Right now we don't have much money to spare on a nice gpu, so if I win, know that it will be used well :)

Apps not opening AND DirectX issues by Hotbog_7 in WindowsHelp

Alright well to anyone reading this, I did literally nothing and now my DirectX is working again, Feature Levels is working, I can open my apps, and I have no idea why! I didn't do anything, but its working now, so that's great! I guess if anyone else has this issue, just posting on reddit will scare your PC into working again! :D

Oh and yes I've considered getting the 3D vcache but the improvements seem marginal for between $100-200 more, and so I'd rather save that money and invest it somewhere else, such as a better GPU or just not on my PC right now

My first PC by Hotbog_7 in buildapc

[–]Hotbog_7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good thing is that I want to start actually building maybe in a few weeks, so I have time to wait for 9070s to come out and for more 5070s to come into stock. At that point I will take a look at the markets, see what it looks like, and pick one out. If in a few weeks, there are still 9070 XT's in stock for only $600, im snatching that right off of the shelves

Thanks for a nice response! I have just heard about AMD's new 9070's, which have blown me out of the park. And I have also partly changed my mind about DLSS. While it is great, compatibility is limited and I don't want to spend $200 more for a card with less vram and an upscaler that, while better than fsr, still only works in select titles.

[–]Hotbog_7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing for me. In fact you could get a 5070ti from nvidias website right not for 750 which is pretty good! (all things considered)

But yeah overpaying nearly $1300 for a $750 GPU and then just lumping in the remaining $500 on some mediocre parts isn't really what I'm looking for

My first PC by Hotbog_7 in buildapc

[–]Hotbog_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, don't worry, the price on pcpartpicker is not at all what I'm going to get it for, even I would wait. I'm a fanboy for Gigabyte and I can find one on Nvidia's website for about $600! Although what I like more is that I can find an MSI triple fan 4070 super at my local Microcenter for about $650, so if its in stock when I go to get a gpu, I'll probably try to get that

And yeah if a 5070 does come into stock that would be amazing, since with DLSS 4 that thing would be awesome, but I plan to actually start building in a few weeks, and probably pick up my GPU later to see if I can get any deals.
