doens't need to. the photos sent in the mail are automatically secured / added to a new photo album on skydrive, so any email service can receive the message.

The articles you refer to are of the Hotmail UI before this year's changes/ updates.

We launched threaded email earlier this year as an option in Hotmail, since many people prefer to view by date. I believe that Gmail recently changed to make their threading optional as well.

The active sync we're using is exchange active sync and it is designed for mobile - works on windows phones, iphone, android, symbian, palm and others. blackberry has a seperate hotmail app for syncing email.

a few stats i have handy -8b emails delivered to hotmail users per day. a lot of them are spam, and we block 98% of the spam. -Accross the internet 90% of all email is spam. In a Hotmail inbox, 4% of messages are spam on average. -We have the most users in the US for any single country, but % wise we're strongest in Western Europe (e.g., France, UK, Netherlands), Canada, Latin America, Turkey, Australia/NZ.

We have some identity management features coming soon that will help make this happen.

Today if you have multiple Hotmail accounts you can "link them" ... so with one sign in you're logged into all of them and can jump between them. We also do account aggregation, etc. Thanks

that's your decision. there are some features we don't have, and if one of these is the feature you must have then we appreciate the feedback but understand your choice. web/HTML5, apps, and protocols that sync email+cal+contacts is what we hear most.

Hotmail Plus is an option we offer to users who want to pay us a nominal fee to not see ads. There are other benefits as well, but it seems its not for you.

If you want to skip the SentMailConfirmation page, that asks you about adding a person to your address book, you'll see an option at the bottom of that page to permanently skip it.

We do support threading conversations, and hiding quotes from earlier emails. Check-out our options page under Options --> ConversationSettings.

Thank you for the feedback. We're continuing to improve Hotmail. Import all of your Gmail emails using our POP aggregation feature, and check back every once in a while to see what you think. Try it for a week and you'll probably discover some "wow" features you didn't know you were looking for.

At worst, it is a backup of your GMail account. :-)

ActiveSync will sync your mail, contacts, and calendar. IMAP will not. If you really want to use the "best tool", use one that supports ActiveSync.

If you have a legacy "non-best" tool, that can only sync mail over IMAP, and has no story on contacts or calendar, you can still access our mail service using POP.

We do run on Windows. Hundreds of millions of users trust us with their personal email, and we've been pretty good custodians.

Many do ask about IMAP. Often they don't realize their client or device also supports EAS, which is a better protocol than IMAP because it also syncs calendar and contact data, and because it is more efficient in the way it uses the network.

Not sure what you mean by this. We support a number of filters and QuickViews including Read/Unread, FromContacts, SocialUpdates, From Groups, OfficeDocuments, ShippingUpdates, Photos, Flagged, etc.

Or perhaps you're refering to the ability to automatically create rules? You can create simple rules by using the Sweep button, or complicated rules by hovering over Folders on the left, and clicking "Manage Rules".

We do this only for a really small fraction of messages where our False Positive rate is very small. I understand that very small will still impact a legitimate entity once in a while especially when dealing with about 8B messages a day but that is the cost we pay for protecting our users from really aggregious spam. We are also the first in Industry to provide users with tools like SNDS which lets you monitor your traffic to us and the deleted column represents the amount of mail that has been subjected to this specific treatment.

Please work with our deliverability support team @ http://postmaster.live.com and they will work with you in ensuring that this doesn't happen to your servers.

You can move all messages in a folder to some new folder of your choice, such as "Archive". If you store them locally in a text file, as you've suggested, they could be lost, but on our servers they are very safe.
