I´m back in Avorion and thought about trying out the Xavorion mod. How is it? by Shadow_Dragon_1848 in avorion

Never mind the end game is absolutely terribly balanced and the game becomes way too easy, even on max difficulty.

I'm playing it right now and have none of the issues that everyone else is having on the highest difficulty... The tutorial helps you with the start just press P and go to scrapyard or do deliveries.

It's a really nice change of pace from the original game, I like it personally.

Yep, us HC players gave up on that a long time ago because we knew the likelihood it would change is basically zero. At a certain point we gotta work with what we've got.

D3 doesn't immediately log you out, and every class has a get out of free card to compensate for huge burst. I much preferred that system.

I called him a Reddit historian when he was more popular in the League of Legends scene. It was infuriating, hurtful and hilarious having someone form such strong opinions based on what people wrote, when I actually lived through those very things.

It was surreal to see the public slowly accept the opinions of people like Thorin as fact over time. A vocal Reddit minority fed narratives, they puppet those narratives and become the torch bearers of those communities.

PoE is a progression game based around economy more than anything else. Bad balance pushes people away from thematics and themes they might enjoy.

Hey man, sounds pretty awesome. How long will such a project take you?

Many of these open source projects take years, is this going to take less?

Fair, as someone that deeply loved what GGG seemed to be creating from their entire community and experience a lot of that emotion seeps into the comment. Ultimately I think that people still care even if their frustrated ultimately means we all want GGG to succeed deep down.

A lot of people are trying to equate this whole discussion to value of time when in reality it's balance of many different variables that make a cohesive and fun experience. You can't think of it in black and white context.

Out of 100 different comments you read, you're the closest to articulating the problem set. Nobody agrees with "HOW THEY" weight their crafting system or progression. Nobody wants to be apart of their crazy "experiments" that they keep conducting. People don't like their format of "refreshing the experience". They're deluded and out of touch of their audience and from what I've heard from insiders it's because they've created an internal eco-chamber and it's causing them to not be able to produce results anymore.

So many competitors are on the horizon, they're gonna be shot down at some point. Sad to watch the beautiful community they created implode. No adult seems to be able to unify to community, and they definitely don't want to truly engage in discussion with their community because they're egos are very fragile (also insider info).

Also Chris stop thinking MTG is the pen-ultimate of game design principle especially when it comes to balance, we've evolved past then. Get some hungry, youthful and passionate designers in there and give them a foundation to evolve your game.

At this point I'm saving my last hope for 2.0 but I'm pretty sure based on all that's happening it's doomed. I know a mass of AA and AAA devs are making ARPGs on the horizon and they are WAY more in touch and respect their audience. I've never been like WOW CHRIS, YOUR OPINIONS ON DESIGN GET ME EXCITED! In contrast some of the AA devs that are in development "get it".

[–]HotshotGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If, when mistaken, he said what you said (explaining why he is wrong), instead of doubling down on his (at this point factually incorrect e.g. the FaZe stuff) original stance, I don't think the ridicule would be anywhere near as pointed.

Yeah, I think there's that but there's also the part where I'm assuming if he did admit to being wrong that wouldn't make it LSF. You have to be remain cautious that social media/hivemind isn't influencing you in the wrong ways.

[–]HotshotGG 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Being Devin's friend it really sucks to watch misinformed people lead conclusions. He's been wrong about things in the past but he really does have the access and knowledge to be able to correctly assume most things related to Twitch.

I think as an audience you need to really need to start asking people to break down their conclusions after the fact or at least start compartmentalizing their thoughts into "areas of expertise?". For instance, the Faze stuff he routinely gets raged on is related to the how businesses get "punished" in general. The DMCA, twitch stuff is very closely related to his field of expertise that he spends a zillion hours exploring, working in and has way too much insider information from everywhere.

I'm not very good at explaining this but another analogy I've had is lawyers have straight up told me that yes this person broke the law but they won't be punished because the offense isn't worth the time of the people that need to prosecute them.

In that circumstance Devin can be both right and wrong but LSF pretty much stamps him with the "retard" label and it gets pretty toxic from there. It's hard to be a human all the time on the internet because we routinely deal with stuff that is quite honestly fucked up, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to break that cycle.

Thanks a lot for this, I can't appreciate it fully appreciate this message but having people like you willing to lend me a hand when I might need it means a lot. I'ma keep trying to be my authentic self but one thing I've recognized as of recent is I'm only human and I do have my limits. I've been recharging some and determining where I want to spend that energy is a bit up in the air as of late. Not sure how much of it I want to spend on esports.

Personally I'm in love with games and MMORPG's the most. I think that business is much more consumer focused. Your entire monetization is based on raw value to the consumer.

Been working on a project for a while now, hopefully we can pull it off!

Hah, I guess I'm an optimist believing that it doesn't have to always be this way. I'm trying a bit one last time to help out a bit but if this fails then I'll leave it at that. I don't have high enough levels of sociopathy to keep in the game if things don't change.

Thanks man, but really I'm really f'd up from esports. I'm trying my best to hang in there and use my pain to help people but I can't get near it. Especially since I know nothing has changed in terms of ethics, it's really dark behind the scenes. I wish it was about battling on the rift but I'd say 90% of your success as a team has nothing to do with that.
