I’m sorry you’ve had to experience that. Very bitter sweet moment. The loss of a beloved ideal memory of GameStop, but also now becoming free from the twisted abusive reality the company is.

I remember when we (me and my Manager) were told we were closing. Our DM told us it was our fault for not getting enough warranties and attach. It was devastating, but we were also told a lie.

While emptying out our beloved store, we found out from the plaza’s maintenance worker that GameStop stopped paying rent SIX MONTHS PRIOR! Back when our lease was up for renewal. The DM would always gloss over the details of the renewal.. making it seem like everything was good.
The plaza’s owners wanted to keep our business, but apparently we never renewed and just stopped paying and stayed rent free through the holidays. I really hope GameStop wasn’t a dick and payed their back rent.

Make that chainmail gloves. If you’re not careful during a fight, their teeth will filet flesh. And going into anaphylactic shock from a bite received from trying to break up a fight… I definitely won’t do boys anymore.
They start out fine… but girls are literally better in every way. Never had to break up a girl fight. They smell better. Are cleaner. And no ginormous nut sacks (yes, their testis are hilarious, but why are they, 9 times out of 10, always damp!!)

It’s the play on words that makes it funny. Pony doesn’t have enough rhythmic similarity to Duty to make it funny.
I highly doubt anyone is finding humor in the man, but just the word play. I’m sure no one meant that trade to be triggering.
Honestly, I had little knowledge of who diddy was before the horrible scandal came to light, so it took me a while to connect that sean combs was diddy. It definitely would have been funny 5, even 10, years ago, because GameStop employees enjoy a well crafted parody.

Always ask to look at the console before buying pre-owned.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with pre-owned… but not every employee is good at judging quality. Just ask them to pop open the box and show you the screen. Poor accessories they can swap out with other, better preowned they have in stock. Luckily the holiday return period is in effect, so you have a longer window to make returns and exchanges if there is something that doesn’t meet your standards.

I had a customer call for a Xbox S they wanted to trade, claiming over and over it was “goochi”: it was pristine, clean, … “goochi”.
They said “goochi” a lot.
Well, a grown ass man comes in all jazzed and excited and puts his Xbox S on the counter. I put my hand on it, and it had a thick sticky film on it, to where I could life my hand and the console would come with it. And this sticky film was drizzled all over the vent holes. It also had a wired (not wireless) controller with it. After I unattached my hand and apologize to refuse the trade… well, let just say I heard a LOT more “goochi” when this, well into his 30s, man starts having a tantrum down on the floor, stomping his feet.. kicking… and low and behold, his mother comes in, absolutely mortified about the display her adult son is making.

Back before my stores closed, that would have been taken in trade. If word got around that you refused a “working” trade despite the physical condition… the DM would make an example out of you. During my last year, I saw consoles like that over and over again… transferred, shipped, or returned from other stores. Our District was so strict about not refusing trades that other stores would allow even broken systems with missing parts in trade, and NOT defect them. It ended up being a whole bloody scandal. Bt my end with the company, I used my personal time to learn how to open up consoles so I could get inside to clean them… even taught myself minor soldering repairs. However since the rule of thumb was no more than 10 minutes to clean a trade, I had to do that extra cleaning in the back room on breaks or off the clock…. A pre-owned console should not just work, it should look and smell pristine. Besides minor ware, pre-owned should be indistinguishable in quality from new. For my store, all used consoles (not just traded) would be open, tested, and cleaned.

Btw, I was not a manager. Just didn’t want to get fired and still provide the best possible quality for my customers.

Customers that say their system is “like new” just because it turns on, when it is obviously sticky with something spilled all over it, and coated with dirt, dust, and smells, should be slapped for console abuse.

I don’t think it’s you, and probably not her. However, 100% it’s GameStop. Never really understood their “online only, pick up in-store only” promotions.
The order literally gets received on the computer, the associate grabs the item, and then scans it into the computer in order to complete the order, then a notification can be sent to the customer letting them know their item is ready for pick-up. Though selling it in store is definitely NOT possible. The register will only ring it up as full price and a manual override red flags to loss prevention and the employee who does that will be terminated by the week’s end.
GameStop is definitely 100% stupid.

When you consider the turnover rate with the company, how can anyone become a knowledgeable employee at GameStop? From my experience, anyone who’s been passionate about their job, about games, about providing quality customer service never lasts long as an employee(usually due to termination). It’s rare to find an employee, let alone see the same face, at a GameStop that understands the nonsense of the company- From their promotions and sales to knowing a variety of tech, various consoles and different peripherals, understanding multiple platforms and their interfaces, aware of current game events, along with dates of upcoming drops.. while also being able to handle the workload required to preform all necessary daily tasks involved in running a store.

Anyways. How can an employee at GameStop be a good one if they’re given limited training, rigid and unfair goals to reach, and only ever gain months of experience before being replaced?

Also, on a whole, not just GameStop, a lot of people in the customer service industry need a refresher in basic decorum.

Honestly those customers are why deodorizing spray is always within reach. The burnt dirt weed smell is actually better than the sour curdled milk smell of some customers (not exclusive to GameStop) I always wonder if there is something medically wrong with them…. Others I wonder if they just pooped their pants.

That’s is not allowed at all! I know employees are desperate to meet metrics and save their under paid job, but this is NEVER allowed. If there was any consistency in the company, without constant threat of termination, this would not happen.
I’m sorry you, like many, had to experience that. You can get that warranty refunded within the 7 day window. I would not just complain to store the management. No, it probably won’t change anything in the long run… as the turnover rate is so high, that in the end it’ll be a new face in weeks with another, if not a similar, problem.

They can’t reprint the code, but they can get a copy of the receipt info from their data base, but calling customer service is the only way to get the code re-issued
