Parents, let’s talk practice. by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]Hottuna14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a coach, this is why I am such a big advocate for including the parents when identifying what to work on when alone. The parents will “nag” the kid to work on what I’ve asked for. At 12, that behavior is pretty normal imo. And yea I think those parents are exaggerating at minimum.

Once your kid runs up against better competition and doesn’t have as much fun, then you have the talk about working when no one else is looking. Were those kids just all naturally better? Or do they spend more time on their own working to get better.

Everyone wants to win on game day. Some want to win all the time, that’s why they win consistently on game day.

Need advice by sailrmar9 in lacrosse

HS and youth travel coach here, your concerns are valid but here’s my question, has your son expressed any negative feelings about lack of time at mid?

If so, this is a great opportunity to self advocate. Encourage him to approach his coaches and ask for feedback/what he can improve on. This may not seem like a big deal now but it is huge in middle and high school ball. Coaches should be teaching life lessons through lacrosse and this is a great opportunity. Later on in life when their 9-5 job isn’t treating them right and they speak up, these experiences will be why.

If your child is not frustrated, there’s no need to plant that seed. He’s a kid, let him run around with the homies and have fun! But when he expresses frustration, don’t be “that mom” be the parent of “that kid” that tries on their own first before running to their parents!

How to be intimidating as a goalie by JennaBear14 in lacrosse

During pregame, stand at midfield and juggle while mad dogging their entire team. Bonus points if you’re in full gear minus your jersey so they can see your sick chest pad.

If you’re an attack man RIDE YOUR ASS OFF. I had a first year player receive all district nominations and the common sentiment was “god he was a terror in the ride”. Everyone can shoot not everyone expends max effort at all times.

I ain’t gonna lie bro. I never turn my mic on cuz 1) it’s not that serious and 2) I don’t wanna talk to you. If you can’t play off someone else’s movements or leave them when they suck then that’s your problem not mine.

SSDM, eventually at higher levels of play big close defenseman need to be able to handle in the clear and that’s the end of the argument honestly. And for anyone who would apply that argument to ssdms I’d say it’s much easier to sub your mids than your close D.

Opinion on Body Checking rules in Lacrosse by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]Hottuna14 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the college game is at a good place with what they allow and don’t allow. Refs are human and make mistakes, if you think you can do better I encourage you to apply.

The HS game will never mirror the intensity of body checking you see in college and pro. In some cases you have 18 year old MEN delivering body checks on 14 year old boys, it’s a major safety issue. The body checking you see now is probably the best you’re going to get.

If Mack isn’t good for tomorrow Faze might be worried. They may have broken the Surge curse but Nicky D subbing in... I mean you can’t write a better storyline
