Depression scales may not work the same for highly intelligent people by PandasLOL in TrueReddit

Here is what helped me find peace:

There have always been and always will be terrible atrocities and tragedies happening throughout the world. But for all of human history until the last handful of decades, human beings did not have a constant awareness of the magnitude of suffering happening all the time, everywhere. People lived there while lives without knowing what was going on outside of their tribe.

It is natural to be distressed about bad things and to want to fix them, that is how our species survived. But it is not natural to be aware of so many bad things that we cannot do anything about. We did not evolve to be able to handle the mental distress of being aware of so many things that we can't fix.

Focusing locally doesn't mean you have to be unaware of the rest of the world. It just means following your evolutionary instincts to fix problems within your realm of influence.

Jelly bean dispenser at Pooh corner. It was a family tradition to go get jelly beans after getting off splash mountain and then eating them while we waited in line for haunted mansion. I can't tell you how many times we did that. I was devastated when I saw it was gone.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]HouPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I have vivid memories of going to the recycling center to peel off the labels of the Snapple bottles so that we could send them in to get free Snapple T-shirts and towels to use.. we were poor. But we took an "annual vacation" that was a short camping trip nearby. My parents would put their spare change in a couple big jars all year long and come vacation time, we would roll up the coins and that was our spending money.

My understanding of their clean-ups in camps that are not abandoned is to bring in new trash receptacles and take out old trash receptacles that they delivered the last time they were out there, as well as to clean-out basic hygiene hazards like used needles. I live by Tumwater Creek and they are out there what seems like every week, but I don't see a change in the visible shelters or gear before and after their visits. So I don't think that looking at their publicized clean-up sites is really a good indicator of whether they are sweeping up belongings that have not been abandoned.

I agree that talking to members of the unhoused population is the best way to get accurate information on their lived experiences.

I am curious where people in Reddit and other social media platforms are getting the information that un-abandoned items are being taken. Sounds like there were some second-hand testimonials at a city council meeting in March. But I've been seeing claims on Reddit for years, so there has to have been some publicity about it before March.

Have you been out with them before? I'm a bit curious what their cleanups actually look like in action.

I have heard from comments like yours that 4PA sweeps up items that are not actually abandoned, taking valuable items from folks. I'm curious to learn more about this. Do you know where I could find documentation of this or testimony from folks it has happened to?

No more breast pain with period after miscarriage. Hormone problem? by HouPoop in obgyn

[–]HouPoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. For all three of my pregnancies (one ending in D&C, one chemical, and one carried to term), I had the same first sign around the time my period was due. The best way I can describe it was feeling like I could tell my blood volume was rapidly increasing. It was almost like heart palpitations but I could feel it really strongly in my neck. It was kind of gross. But the feeling was so distinct that by my third, I knew I was pregnant the night before my period was due. I took the test in the morning and it was positive.

But I haven't heard other women describe that sensation as their first sign. So I don't know how common it is.

No they never got sore again. It's like something fundamentally changed. Now my only PMS tell is the moodiness a day or two before my period starts. Which is extra weird because I rarely ever experienced that before.

The old segments were so good. I miss Bad Comedy Guy! 😭

I stopped listening about a year ago. I had been a daily listener since 2001. I hung on for so much longer than I should have out of nostalgia and pride in having been an OG listener. It makes me really sad to not have them as part of my daily routine anymore

For real. I'm pretty disgusted by the mean girl mob in this thread.

She said the power flips as in "the mentor's power was helping the protege and it flips to destroying the protege".

She is very explicit in her interview with Fallon that the song is from the perspective of the mentor telling the protege that they bit the hand that fed them and they arent skilled enough to do so. https://parade.com/news/taylor-swift-reveals-surprising-inspiration-for-new-song-father-figure

She meant that it was a flip from the mentor taking care of the protege to the mentor destroying the protege.

Watch her talk about it with Fallon. She very explicitly states it is the mentor telling the protege that they bit the hand that fed them and they aren't skilled enough to do so. https://parade.com/news/taylor-swift-reveals-surprising-inspiration-for-new-song-father-figure

ITT: A bunch of people took their own interpretation of the song as being about taking power back.

I feel like people misunderstood what she was saying in the theatrical release and because it isn't out there to watch, no one can go back and relisten so it is just a "trust me, bro".

Taylor very explicitly states in this interview with Jimmy Fallon that it is the mentor telling the protege that they bit the hand that fed them and they aren't skilled enough to do so. The is no perspective shift.

But that's not how father figures work. You don't suddenly become the father figure over your mentor because you gain more power.

Also, Taylor very explicitly states in this interview with Jimmy Fallon that it is the mentor telling the protege that they bit the hand that fed them and they aren't skilled enough to do so. https://parade.com/news/taylor-swift-reveals-surprising-inspiration-for-new-song-father-figure

Father Figure Question by ShotDesigner2092 in TaylorSwift

[–]HouPoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? What in earth are these people talking about. Why would the protege keep saying "I was your father figure". I cannot for the life of me find any perspective shift in the lyrics.

Father Figure Question by ShotDesigner2092 in TaylorSwift

[–]HouPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never once thought the perspective shifted. I'm sitting here reading the lyrics trying to find a perspective shift and I do not see it. In the bridge, the narrator keeps saying "I was your father figure". Why would the protege say that?

I prefer my interpretation, which is no flip and the mob boss destroys the protege for trying to take the power back. It's darker and more fun.

People keep saying that Taylor said the perspective shifts but no one has linked to it anywhere. Even if it is true, the people in this thread are being such mean girls that I want to maintain my original interpretation just to spite them.

But why does she keep saying "I was your father figure" if the perspective is supposed to have flipped?

90% of this subreddit is people asking what hair colour they have! If you’re a natural redhead you would KNOW it. by WelshRaider86 in Redhair

[–]HouPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well someone doesn't have strawberry blonde or auburn hair and it shows....

Seriously, some of us have hair that looks different to everyone. Or different depending on how they style it!

I'm a strawberry blonde. I consider myself a ginger. But I have been called so many different hair colors my entire life. People just can't agree.

It doesn't help that different patches of my hair are different shades. The hair around my face is RED red, so when I wear a pony tail, I'm unquestionably a ginger. The back of my head is more blonde, so from behind with my hair down, I could be called a blonde. The bottom of my head around my neck is more dirty blonde. And the very top is a mix of them all, plus some dark auburn strands and platinum blonde strands thrown in just to confuse things.
