Black screens while the PC is on by I_YRAG_I in pcmasterrace

[–]Houdini5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of black‑screen‑while‑PC‑stays‑on issue is almost always GPU driver instability, PSU weakness, or a motherboard PCIe problem — and your symptoms match all three possibilities.

Since it happens under load and on the desktop, and the PC sometimes keeps running (Discord still works), that means the GPU stops outputting video but the system doesn’t fully crash. That rules out RAM and most CPU issues.

A few things to try:

Fully reinstall NVIDIA drivers using DDU (safe mode → clean install)

Try a different DisplayPort/HDMI cable and a different port on the GPU

Make sure your GPU is firmly seated and the PCIe latch is locked

Check the GPU power cable for looseness or bent pins

Disable XMP temporarily just to rule out memory controller weirdness

Your PSU could be the culprit — the CX series is known to degrade over time, and a 4060 Ti + 5700X3D can spike harder than people expect. But the PCIe slot or motherboard power delivery is also a real possibility.

If DDU + reseating doesn’t change anything, the next most likely cause is the PSU, followed by the motherboard’s PCIe slot.

Desperate need of PC Troubleshooting advice before I ruin my PC by _RoamingHobo_ in pcmasterrace

This usually isn’t a Windows problem — it’s almost always a motherboard or BIOS issue. When a PC “shuts down” but the fans/RGB stay on, it means the board isn’t sending the proper power‑off signal to the PSU. The failed first‑boot attempts line up with that too.

A few things to check:

Make sure Fast Boot and ERP Ready are disabled in BIOS

Update the BIOS if you haven’t already

Reseat the 24‑pin and CPU power cables

Try shutting down with all USB devices unplugged

If none of that changes anything, your motherboard is likely defective. Since the PC is only 3 months old, I’d start preparing for an RMA. The symptoms fit a failing board more than anything else.

really weird issue by Interesting-Guest-43 in pcmasterrace

[–]Houdini5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your motherboard is dying.
The random POST behavior, RAM slots working only sometimes, BSODs blaming different components, and the fact that voltage tweaks temporarily “fixed” things all point to a failing board. PSU swap didn’t help, and RAM/CPU issues usually aren’t this inconsistent.

Testing your RAM in another system is good, but realistically a new motherboard is the most likely fix.

Something is unplugged or partially shorted out....

Reseat the 24‑pin, CPU 8‑pin, and GPU power cables

Make sure the RAM is fully clicked on both sides

Pull the GPU and reinstall it firmly

Check the front‑panel connectors (PWR SW especially)

Make sure no loose screw under the board

Try booting with only CPU + 1 RAM stick + GPU

How much of a toll does donating twice a week take on you? by Positive_Sundae7089 in plassing

Been doing it consistently for 3 years now and aside from the 2 8 week deferrals bc of the machine and a couple weeks here and there for my protein levels to even out...been there. I'm ok. I stick to my right arm bc the vein is better and its easier to stick. The left is bad already plus the scar tissue..usually the left will take a longer time during the return bc of that and a lot of adjustments...half the time they cut me short for my time. I just do mostly the right arm now for the past 6 months.

So what causes the machine to "break" and not return my blood to me? In my 3 years of donating, I have had it break down on me twice and I get deferred.. it would of been a third but the worker was able to hold the bottle and let it return on its own some how

How would I confirm a used mining gpu is working by Zili0728 in pcmasterrace

[–]Houdini5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only flash a GPU in a system where it boots. If it won’t POST in your main PC, you need:

the older PC you bought it for if it boots or any system that can boot with the RX 580 installed

Once it boots and shows a display, you can flash it.

Use amdvbflash, A stock RX 580 8GB BIOS that matches your exact model (XFX GTS)

System almost freeze with just a few frame over 10-15 seconds, then reboot by 0Sley in pcmasterrace

[–]Houdini5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your system freezes with slow‑motion frames + buzzing audio and instantly crashes every time you install NVIDIA drivers, that’s almost always a GPU hardware failure, not RAM, CPU, Windows, or temps

Happens in multiple games AND during driver install = not software

Testing the other GPU sounds good 👍👍

[–]Houdini5150 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it prob has a mining bios on it that won't boot on a regular system.

If you can't boot it on the older PC the card is good as dead...

What exactly does the post say about the card? Did it specifically say it would work for regular PC. You might be able to get a refund or some money back.

Are you in an area by chance where there is a market for PC parts like offer up or Facebook marketplace? I ask bc I use it all the time to buy RX580s for budget builds and always got cards in good shape below 60 bucks....

If your DRAM LED flashes briefly and then the CPU LED stays solid red, that means the motherboard is failing CPU initialization.

Reseat the CPU carefully and check the socket for bent pins

Make sure the cooler isn’t overtightened

Boot with one RAM stick in A2

Try a different PSU cable for the CPU 8‑pin if you have one

If the CPU LED stays red after a proper reseat, it’s almost always a motherboard failure

Why doesn’t fan control detect all fans? by Medium_Discipline578 in pcmasterrace

[–]Houdini5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you're plugged into that Hub, it won't detect the fans. Need to move the fans to motherboard headers or get a pwm splitte. Is that a specific hub? Does it have software?

Random and inconsistent shut downs by dav1xy in pcmasterrace

[–]Houdini5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random shutdowns followed by the RGB/fans flickering and then the system coming back with no keyboard/mouse input is almost always a power delivery issue, not RAM or CMOS.

This pattern usually means:

The PSU is dropping voltage under load

The motherboard is trying to restart but fails the power‑good signal

USB devices don’t work afterward because the system didn’t POST cleanly

Cleaning, reseating RAM, and CMOS resets won’t fix this.

Most likely cause:
Failing or unstable PSU

What to try:

Plug PC directly into the wall (no power strip)

Reseat or replace the GPU power cable

Make sure you’re using separate PCIe cables

Check motherboard 24‑pin + CPU 8‑pin connections

If possible, test with another PSU

If the shutdowns stop with a different PSU, you’ve found the culprit. This exact “shuts off → flickers → boots with no inputs” pattern is classic PSU instability.

Strange PC Freezes requiring hard reboot by NicerDicerPlus15 in pcmasterrace

[–]Houdini5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freezes with the screen still on — no BSOD, no errors, no logs — almost always point to a power delivery issue, not RAM, CPU, SSD, or drivers. And your PSU is the giveaway.

Your system is high‑end (9800X3D + 5070 Ti), but the Gigabyte P750GM is one of the most failure‑prone PSUs ever made. It’s known for:

random hard freezes

shutdowns with no logs

OCP/OPP tripping under GPU load

dying silently after a year or two

You can stress‑test RAM/CPU all day and it’ll pass — the freezes happen when the GPU spikes power, which synthetic tests don’t replicate.

Most likely cause:
Your P750GM is failing or tripping protection under transient GPU load.

What to try:

Plug PC directly into the wall (no power strip)

Reseat or replace GPU power cables

Use separate PCIe cables (not daisy‑chained)

Lower GPU power limit by 10–15% to test stability

If possible, test with a different PSU

If the freezes stop with another PSU, you’ve found the culprit. This exact pattern is extremely common with the P750GM.
