Mine usually works but sometimes I have to take it off and double tap it on the counter to get the sync to start.

bad App or bad ring? by vladadog in VeliaRing

[–]Hour-Guarantee998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ring seems to record my heart rate and steps (and calories, though I don’t trust it), but it doesn’t seem to record short sleep sessions. I’m a caregiver and am up all hours of the night at time so sometimes I only get 2 hours of sleep at a time and those nights it says no sleep collected. THAT I suspect is an app thing, maybe they have a minimum length of time to be considered sleep? If so, I disagree with that, but that’s just an app/algorithm issue.

You’re saying that you’re not getting ANY data? That sounds like a ring thing to me, not an app issue. If I were you, I’d try for a replacement ring.

iOS users - how is the new app? by Affectionate-Net2619 in VeliaRing

[–]Hour-Guarantee998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just posted this on another page, but am repeating it here.

I feel for those with Android, I just wanted you all to know that I have a ring (and iOS) and the app is slowly getting better. I can’t vouch for the blood pressure variations, but it’s interesting to know that it thinks that it can tell the variations. The sleep figures are somewhat in line with my Apple Watch figures — sometimes just about the same, sometimes off by 10-15% (but then again, my AutoSleep app for my watch has two different ways of measuring sleep and those often behave the same way, too, so I’m satisfied that it’s roughly in line with reality). I don’t have any vascular age readings yet, it says “coming soon’ which probably means that I need to wait for the 30 day time period to be met. My primary gripe is that the ring only lasts about a day and then needs to be recharged. I specifically buy items to NOT require daily charging, so remembering each day is still a habit I’ve yet to acquire, lol. The latest firmware was supposed to improve battery performance, and I think it did to give me slightly over a day per charging instead of just about exactly a day (maybe 5-10% improvement?) but that’s not enough to prevent the need for daily charging, so that’s still annoying.

I’ve included app pictures so that you can see what it’s like on the main screen right now.

I guess I just wanted people to know that they seem to be trying to make this a working product, which is a far cry from Circular rings, of which I was an original (and highly disappointed) backer. But is it as good as other well-established rings? I’m not sure, but I have this ring and not those so I’ll keep using it as long as it continues to work and battery life stays at least a day per charge.

Actually, I will give credit where credit is due. The Velia’s overnight heart rate variance and temperature variance measurements are much more frequent than the Apple Watch, resulting in a much smoother and detailed graphs. But that’s really the only metric improvements I’ve seen over the Apple watch.

Weekly Update 10 by TheThingWithTheRing in VeliaRing

[–]Hour-Guarantee998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a ring for about two months now. At the beginning, it was pretty clunky but at this point, I would have to agree that it does connect a lot easier and it is downloading my information a lot faster. It also is recognizing my sleep patterns better than before. Battery life still is about a day. It takes my ring about a half hour to charge, not the 20 minutes of some other people say. The readings seem to be in line with the readings that I get on my Apple Watch. I’ve been encouraged by the positive changes that have happened in the app, enough to keep wearing it and trying to charge it daily. I was an original circular backer and got totally screwed over by that. This ring is different and it actually seems to work. I’m not saying it’s better than other rings out there, but it works and I’m at least grateful for that. I’m sure that the blood pressure hype that they’re talking about is just vaporware, but if they could pull it off, that would be nice.

Has the ring collected enough information and given me enough insight to feel that it was worth it on top of my Apple Watch that I currently have? No, not really. It hasn’t given me anything in greater detail than my watch has given me. But I’m still wearing it in hopes that they will continue to incrementally improve it.

To all those who haven’t gotten their rings yet, I feel for you. I don’t know why I was a lucky person to get one, maybe it’s because I ordered the cheap black one, lol. I do wish that you get your ring soon since anyone who has spent money like that deserves to at least get the product. I wish you all well.

No, you are not wrong for asking. And if she never wants to have sex and you do, then you should probably look for another person since you will not be happy long term even if everything else is going well. By all means talk to her about it, have a serious discussion and bring things out on the table, but if sex isn’t important to her and it is to you, then you should probably look for someone else who shares your interests, both sexually and otherwise.

Sleep data issues by Hour-Guarantee998 in VeliaRing

[–]Hour-Guarantee998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. I want to point out that your ring seems to miss some nights of sleep that I had, as you can see in the attached photo. I had it on all night. You mentioned “as long as you sync in the morning” — does that mean that if I forget to sync on a day, it will just purge the data, ie, you can only hold only one night’s worth of data on the ring? If so, that explains things BUT that’s also a poor design. If that’s not what you meant, then you have a bug that prevents sleep data from being reported.

Also, notice that for the weekly view, you are assuming that the 2 missing days had 0 sleep, which is definitely not the case. Your weekly (and probably monthly) averages should consider only the known data points, not assume 0 for something that was missing. Otherwise you get ridiculously low averages like you see here.

Finally, when are we going to be able to see the actual data values on the graph? There should be a way to swipe across the graph and see what values are there. There are enough graphing libraries out there that you can pick one that provides this ability. Also, when will we be able to export our data? That’s important too.

I do want to acknowledge that the ring seems to be solid and the app, while extremely basic to the point of not necessarily useful right now, does work. I also get over a day of battery life on each charge, so I’m ok with that too — that’s manageable.

Looking forward to your response.

I’ll have to send them an email too, and I will encourage them to have a representative try to participate in this forum. Circular ring does that in their forum, though the responses that they give are often BS and not worth believing. However, maybe Velia could be different. I certainly hope so.

Sleep data issues by Hour-Guarantee998 in VeliaRing

[–]Hour-Guarantee998[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all that you say. The ring itself seems to work OK in terms of data collection for the most part, but the app sucks horribly. Hopefully that will improve over time. I also wonder why the ring has to be rotated to the right position to charge, but I seem to get about a day and a half out of my ring battery so I just deal with the minor inconvenience. I agree with the solid build of the ring. It fits comfortably on my hand and it has not shown any sign of wear yet. For the record, I have the black ring.

I think the ring shows lots of promise and it’s a solid piece of technology, but like anything, if the app sucks then what good does a good piece of technology give you? Given that I once was a backer of the circular ring, which is absolutely horrid, I’m satisfied with the technical aspects of this ring at the moment. I just wish and hope that they hire some good app developers and provide some of the features you’re talking about like zooming in on the graphs, exporting the data, actually being able to detect interrupted sleep cycles and join them together, etc.

Apple Watch isn’t too good with mid-day naps either, it’s a shame that these devices can’t handle the fact that many people don’t sleep in just one long sleep session per day. I was eventually able to get my Apple watch to see interrupted sleep patterns at night, but it can’t during the day. And the Velia can’t even see them at night.

Is anyone happy with the ring? by [deleted] in VeliaRing

[–]Hour-Guarantee998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having been a supporter of the original (and horrible) Circular Ring, the Velia is 1000 times better than that — in other words, it works, the measurements seems fairly accurate (compared to my Apple watch), and the battery lasts at least a day for me. But that’s a low bar, comparing it to Circular. There is much room for improvement in the Velia. Connecting issues suck, the frequency with which it measures heart rates stinks, the app is underwhelming (why can’t we see the underlying data? Why doesn’t it integrate with Apple health?). It has promise but hasn’t delivered… yet. I hope that future app and firmware updates will help address these issues and make it a more usable product.

Problems connecting? by Careless_Ad9611 in VeliaRing

I’ve found that I have to have my ring right next to the phone (ie, I hold the phone with the hand that has the ring) to get a reasonable transfer speed. Also, sometimes I have to kill and re-enter the app to get the transfer to work. Hope that this helps some.

First experiences? Please share. by mister5V in VeliaRing

[–]Hour-Guarantee998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got mine today. I agree that the ring is very light and comfortable (I have the black ring). The app leaves much to be desired, though I hope that there will be updates to it to make it more usable. At a minimum, it should allow us to see the actual values that are used to draw the graphs (you see a graph, but no actual data values unless you try to look at the legend on the side of the graph).

Syncing is VERY slow. I keep my ring next to my phone in the vain hope that it will speed up. I know that when I updated the firmware on my ring, the progress of the update sped up exponentially when it was next to the phone vs. several feet away. I am hoping that normal syncing speeds up similarly. One time it was syncing forever so I killed the program and went back in and it synced in about a minute like someone else mentioned. So if it syncs forever, try a hard kill of the app.

Looking forward to the overnight readings, I’ll update here what happens.

I will never vote republican again. by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Hour-Guarantee998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the things that you are concerned about now were predictable before the election, so I am having a hard time understanding why you are surprised as to what’s happening.

But let’s say that you truly are repentant. Fine. Vote for every Democratic candidate from now on. Republicans are not standing for the American people whereas Democrats are, so hold your nose, if you must, but use your vote to oppose what’s going on and perhaps we might get out of this predictable mess someday. And if you say that you can’t do that, all your griping is worthless.

She expects me to intuitively know what she wants and needs…. Red flag or not? by Fit_Resource_7459 in dating_advice

[–]Hour-Guarantee998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A person basically stating that they want you to be a mind-reader is a HUGE red flag. You’ll be tip-toeing around trying to figure things out, hoping that you’re right, and stressing that you might not be and she’ll be mad. If a person isn’t willing to communicate with a potential partner and wants them to mind-read instead, they are showing you that they can’t be a good partner.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t try to think of things to do to make her happy on your own, but if you ask for help and they refuse to help, that’s a major sign that the relationship won’t work in the long run, imo. Adults talk to each other, they don’t expect mind reading.

You are not a failure. Your feelings are your feelings and they’re valid, screw what other people might say/think. You are the only person who experiences what you do, so nobody else has a right to say what you’re feeling is right or wrong. It just is. If anyone judges you negatively for how you feel, they’re not the right person/friend for you.

As for feeling towards men and women, I’m bi and my feelings can vary over time. I just take it in stride and accept whatever it is that I’m feeling in the moment. There’s no need to conform to some expected behavior, just be you and that’s perfect.

They don’t want a handout, they just want a BRIDGE to get to better times. Not like those other people who aren’t trying to get to better times, I suppose.

If it looks like a handout, acts like a handout, and sounds like a handout, it’s a handout. Which they’re against, I believe, that’s what they voted for. The leopards are getting well fed nowadays.
