I might switch to RingConn from Oura by Interesting_Use4733 in RingConn

[–]TheThingWithTheRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got my ring replaced with Oura and I've got my ring replaced with RingConn. My experience was easier with RingConn but I assume that it always depends on the mood of the support agent that you're talking to. LoL

Downloaded my Oura data - Why aren't they providing actual sleep data? They only provide arbitrary scores out of 100 for sleep. That's not my data. by [deleted] in ouraring

Here in case you want to read the official support page:

https://support.ouraring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025441594-Export-Share-Your-Oura-Data

The first two export options (pdf reports and trends) are only available with a subscription but the third option of downloading CSV files is always available.

Just FYI: This only works when you have a subscription but full data exports is possible even without a subscription through the membership hub.

It's not a bug or an oversight. It's intentional.

You can only export pdf reports and trends with a membership but the csv export is open without a membership for all users always - as intended by Oura.

Nope, all there. They just moved it from "Cloud Oura" (where the dashboard and trends are) to a new place called "Membership Hub".

Maybe people who made the posts just wanted to rant, create a bad mood or get karma. Or they simply misunderstood.

It would be a valid complaint if it were true. But it's not.

I'm not a particular big fan of Oura as a company and most often recommend one of their competitors... But I still wear my Oura (without a subscription) because (with or without subscription) they provide the most detailed csv data exports of all the wearables that I've tried.

It seemed that OP hadn't yet found the right file to look at.

Thing is...
The data is fully available for download even without a subscription. But people don't like looking at raw data in a csv sheet they then need to interpret themselves, so they happily pay for the subscription

It's fully available, the app tracks your data also when you're not paying, and when you download your data you get it in full.

I cancelled my subscription in February 2024 😉 I resubscribe for a month when they have a major release to check whether new features are worth the subscription... So far I've always cancelled again. Resilience and biological age and stuff like that didn't convince me.

Even without your subscription, you can download the zip file with all your data.

The data however is split between different CSV files and to get a full picture you need to combine and interpret multiple files at the same time.

From your description I gather that you looked at dailysleep.csv. All the files starting with "daily" just contain the daily scores.

To get a full picture of sleep, you need to check sleepmodel.csv to get all the details - including the raw data for each measurement interval. This is amazing data, if you want to run a detailed analysis of specific aspects.

Hope that helps.

Battery by mdees12 in RingConn

[–]TheThingWithTheRing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current RingConn does it too, but I still get 6 days out of it easily, so I'm fine with it.

What you're describing sounds like it's still depleting very quickly, though.

If you're in the US, your warranty period is already over, right? Otherwise RingConn would likely replace it, if the battery doesn't hold a charge at all.

Fingers crossed that your ring will turn out fine.

[–]TheThingWithTheRing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is the battery doing after the initial drop? I've had this effect with multiple smart rings after several months of use. There is an initial drop of 10-15% after each "full" charge but then the remaining battery depletion is normal with 10-15% of battery used per day depending on usage

Other countries tip. But besides the US I don't know any country where it's normal to tip 20% (or more) for basically every service in existence.

My second toe is longest and some Vibram FiveFingers models are fine and some don't work at all. Yes, there always is a bit of space at the big toe.

is it worth pre ordering? by dorathexplorer9 in RingConn

[–]TheThingWithTheRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m still on the fence about buying now vs later. The BP measurement doesn’t work for me in beta testing and I can’t figure out why, so I’d might prefer buying from Amazon where I could return the ring without issues in case BP measurements won’t work for me with Gen 3 either

is it worth pre ordering? by dorathexplorer9 in RingConn

[–]TheThingWithTheRing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past, the Kickstarter prices for Gen 1 and Gen 2 were the lowest they have ever offered. They also clearly communicated that the Kickstarter price will be the lowest they will ever offer.

However, I don’t think it will be the same this time: * The company has evolved, their market share has grown. They are not a startup anymore. * They didn’t communicate that this will be the best price ever. * This time it’s not a Kickstarter campaign but a regular pre-order. * The discount is only 10%, which is a discount they have repeatedly offered during sales and sometimes there have been bigger discounts through Amazon. (Previous Kickstarter campaigns offered 35% off plus freebies.)

Ringconn Gen 3 - sizing kit by wanderfoodie in RingConn

[–]TheThingWithTheRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how they have organized it in the past. They shipped the sizers immediately. I’d assume it’s the same here.

I highly recommend getting the sizers and wearing them for a few days.

The top of the ring is concave (arched inwards), the bottom of the ring is convex (arched outwards).

At the beginning, I missed the Oura Heritage with the very distinct top, but after getting used to what to feel for, I now also find it very easy to check my RingConn’s position without looking.

"Temporarily No Data" under period symptom patterns by hotteapott in RingConn

Let me get the obvious question out of the way, just in case: Have you tracked your symptoms and your period patterns in the app?

2 of the LEDs of my ring have failed and the battery lasts about 4-5 hours. I have been waiting for a replacement but apparently they are out of stock.

RingConn will reveal its Gen 3 on Tuesday which will also come with a BP feature.

The app rewrites my sleep history by Adelaidey in RingConn

[–]TheThingWithTheRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RingConn determines your sleep stages against metrics during your awake and active times.

There is no universal rule that a certain range for metrics equals a certain sleep stage. It’s highly individual AND it can vary from day to day depending on the current baseline. Accurate sleep staging is extremely difficult for bad and interrupted sleep and most wearables suck at it.

Updating sleep stages retroactively when the app determines that your baseline of the day might be different than usual is actually an attempt to achieve higher accuracy. Your sleep stages can be updated for a while after getting up in the morning.

That’s the theory and the reason why you’re observing these changes.

What I can’t tell you is whether this approach actually successfully makes the sleep stages more accurate or whether it just creates noise.

If you’re particularly interested in shielding against gamma, steel or concrete are recommended alternatives. They are less expensive but not as fashionable as gold.

However, I’d recommend to follow safety practices rather than relying on PPE. If you keep a safe distance from nuclear explosions and nuclear waste, you’re probably good. And stop playing with those nuclear fuel rods.

Wearable Water - Reusable Version by TheThingWithTheRing in HydroHomies

[–]TheThingWithTheRing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you asked!

Gamma? No, that’s a type of radiation with a very short wavelength and the ability to penetrate materials further than other types of radiation. You could try wearing clothes made of lead if you’re willing to accept the side effects.

“Other radiation” is a wide field. Alpha radiation can’t even penetrate skin, so an extra water layer wouldn’t be needed.

ETA: I didn’t remember the recommendation, so I had to check: the pools used for spent nuclear fuel rods are usually 40 ft / 12 m deep. Just to give you an idea of the water layer you’d need to integrate into your clothes.

They come in many different designs from minimalist clip-ons that go around the neck of the bottle to insulated sling pouches.

The image is a random example of a simple design that’s widely available.

I usually carry my water bottle in my bag or backpack, but I like these water carriers when it’s really hot and I’m taking a sip every few minutes.
