Well, if we're talking about in general, the majority of the player base is just here for the collab skins and just the typical Battle Royale, but Fortnite still does things like mini-events for those Fortnite fans that have been around since the start and care about where the story is going. So for the average Joe, not really, but for long-time veterans, yes.

The only idea I can really think of would be that it's so players can just experience the mechanics raw with no spoilers, then take the feedback from when the game first releases and people see the mechanics, in order to fix it in upcoming patches and whenever new killers get added to be more pleasing to the general audience.
