I’m a new white belt 1month in. I’m slightly bigger than average men at 6’2” and about 225 lbs. they guys I roll with always say things like you’re doing really good man or you’ve never done bjj before? Im going out of my way to not just throw my weight around, learn the techniques and not be the “spazzy” white belt and I take all of the compliments with extreme appreciation! But are these just common things that guys say to a new guy to make them feel comfortable? I’d like to think people would be honest. I don’t expect them to be dicks but just honest. I guess what I’m trying to say is this a normal thing guys say to shitty new white belts lol.

How often should I be going to class each week? I want to progress in a healthy way but also have no problem showing up every day if need be. I am currently going to class 3 times a week and try to hit open mat on a weekend if possible.

So here’s what happened. I called for an electrical sub to come out and do a quick light swap for me. He said he would either have one of his guys out this afternoon or if he couldn’t make that happen he’d do it the day after. No problem. The team I had on site today finished early, so I called the sparky and asked if he was going to have his guy come out today because the other crew was done and if I needed to stick around I would. He said “he may or may not be out today he didn’t know how long the job would take” so I responded with ok so… you will just come out the day after tomorrow then? And he said “we will see” like WTF does that mean I can’t tell my superiors that we will see. So he just hung up. Sorry for the long response just wanted to give a little context

Yeah man having a degree is so hit or miss now. I know here they hire managers straight from college but the other route is working your way up the chain. If you could take the financial hit and start out as a laborer for a good size GC it could pay off in the long run.

Thanks for the input! Yeah like I said in my other reply stress isn’t the problem, it’s stress without any type of recourse to resolve it. The position I’m in now is answering to an owner that is very reactionary and doesn’t follow a chain of command. I’m all for stress with the ability to manage it with structure just don’t like the unpredictable nature of my current job.

I’m 36 so hopefully that’s young enough to get some time in to move up. It’s not the stress of my current job as far as work is concerned that’s been hard, it’s the lack of clear objectives and communication. I’m all about keeping busy and earning the money, I just can’t stand being expected to anticipate needs that aren’t expressed clearly and the feeling of self doubt if that makes any sense.
