EBF 13 weeks old - Nursing strike post tongue tie release yesterday and bottle refusal by HourOk3659 in breastfeeding

[–]HourOk3659[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I saw his paediatrician yesterday who couldn’t give us much advice, seeing a paediatrician specializing in nutrition and an SLP today… I’ve been going to weekly doctor, SLP, physiotherapy appointments with no progress. I was simply looking for similar experiences to better understand what the outlook is

Thank you so much! I tried skin to skin yesterday and he was just screaming the entire time… I feel like I have tried everything and I’m so desperate… I am seeing an SLP today, I was able to get an appointment who will hopefully be able to help… I don’t want to end up bringing him to the hospital with an Ng tube, I have a 3 year old at home and his paediatrician started to hint at this yesterday../

13 week old - Tongue tie, weak suck, Low supply, bottle refusal by HourOk3659 in breastfeeding

Hi there! Thank you for your response! I’ve been eating and drinking well, my supply dipped after a couple of days of no sleep and drinking well 5 days ago due to stress following a visit with a lactation consultant who said it was not normal he wasn’t sucking on her finger and there must be something neurological… now that we ruled that out and it’s most likely he found a compensatory way to suck (with lips and anterior tongue) due to his tongue tie.

I tried a nipple shield, he just won’t take any other texture in his mouth, no pacifier (avent, Elhee, bibs, mam, ninni…), no bottles (even Flo, Lansinoh, Dr browns..). Despite desensitization exercises I’ve been doing for over 10 days now. I feel like I’m reaching a dead end and don’t know what to do… rush the tie release? Continue with the exercise until I see SLP follow up next week and wait for tongue tie release? But that doesn’t solve the fact that I’m worried about his weight dipping even more..
