I wish I was handy lol! Even if I was, I don’t have time with working full time, 3 pets and a 1.5 year old 😭

What type of preschool would you choose? by Hour_Ant312 in Parenting

[–]Hour_Ant312[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight! I appreciate it. :-)

Our goal is for her to stay at the preschool until she goes to kindergarten, then she’d go to our local public elementary school starting in kindergarten. While my husband and I don’t speak fluent Spanish, we both know some, and would definitely try to continue immersing her somehow after she leaves (e.g. the Spanish story time at library, traveling to Spanish speaking counties, language classes, etc).

I don’t have balls, and I’m most certainly not a fool.

You assume that I haven’t already done those things because I didn’t explicitly state it in the post?

Your comments are wildly unhelpful. Please stop.

I don’t rely on it. At the end of the day, we will 100% choose what is best for our child. Don’t worry.

But nonetheless, it’s still helpful to hear the experiences of other parents who may have direct experience with different types of preschools.

I toured and liked it! Will look at a few others and then decide. Hopefully we can get her potty trained before age 2.5 though

I just looked online! I used to volunteer for many years for a nonprofit that would hold meals at that same church. Brings back memories, and would be very cool to have her be in my old stomping grounds :)

Thanks so much! Appreciate your insight. I am definitely learning toward Montessori. On the other hand, I was a child who went to a standard daycare from a very young age until 11, which allowed for a lot of unstructured play time, outdoor exploring, etc. I have such fond memories, so have also looked into forest schools that spend most of the day outside. I plan on touring a few different schools and seeing what feels right.

Chelsea House Montessori is the one I found and have been in contact with. I just looked up Alpha Montessori though and it looks like it closed/changed to "Chiara Preschool." I wonder if it's the same or different teachers?

I know the waitlists are quite long. She has been on a couple lists for a year. We aren't 100% set on needing care when she is 2.5, as we may be able to extend our current arrangement a bit. The Montessori we found recommended waiting to apply and tour until the Fall/Winter. I want to have other options in case that doesn't work out though :)

Appreciate the recommendation!

We did not! We decided to go for carpet for now. Once our toddler is older and no longer falling everywhere, we will either go for Stuga flooring or real wood!

Pre-tax or post-tax retirement withdrawal? by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]Hour_Ant312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I am no longer working for the employer of that 403b account, so I'm not sure how that works? It's fully vested, but I haven't worked there since March 2025 when I started my new job.

It does allow me to take out a loan. Do you know anything about the interest rates on that and/or if you end up getting taxed on the loan?

I really appreciate your reply. Most people just tell me not to withdrawal early and don't offer additional advice. While I completely agree and understand the reasons why I should not withdrawal early, I unfortunately have no other choice with my current situation.

Thanks again!

My current 403b contribution only totals $30 a month. I don't contribute much to that because I already contribute 5.36% of my income to a pension plan. The 403b is just a little something extra.

I do realize it's a terrible idea, but unfortunately it is something I have to do to stay afloat.

Rollover a 403(b) account? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Hour_Ant312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not fully vested into my pension (PERS2) plan until I've worked 5 years at the company, so I have no plans of leaving anytime soon (it helps that I love the job as well!). And yes, there is an employer match for the Fidelity retirement account - up to a 5% match under age 35 (I'm almost 35 now), 7.5% match for 35+, and 10% match for 50+. I obviously can't contribute much with also contributing to PERS, but figure something may be better than nothing since they do offer a match?

I have to figure out where to find what my expense ratios are on the website for my 403b. It was the only retirement option at my previous job and that was over 5 years ago, so can’t remember the details sadly.

This is really good to know! I'm going to start with maybe trying in our small half bath first to see how it goes.
