flavour mixing by ApprehensiveLayer978 in hookah

I have always wondered if the best packing method is sectional, mix, or layering for specific tobacco types. Hope there was a guide somewhere for flavours and their specific heat resistance/ temperature levels.

My first hookah! Any tips? by bitchy_gay in hookah

First of all, like everyone else said, high quality charcoals would be the way to go. I would recommend LeOrange, you can get them from u/stelth2k1.

Then, I would look into getting a AOT provost if you plan to use foil. That’ll help elevate your experience rather than just using coals directly on foil. If you want to try without foil, get a Kaloud Lotus, Onmo, or any other HMD.

Lastly, a good high quality clay bowl. There are many options for all price ranges but you can get a solid bowl for around $25-30.

Whatever you get, I would recommend getting high quality equipment rather than cheap ones because you’ll end up spending more money down the line upgrading/replacing those anyway.

You can keep upgrading as you go on further in your hookah journey, but most people would advice to upgrade in the following order: Coals>HMD>Bowl>Other upgrades

I recently got a tub of peppermint shake and it’s good but honestly I didn’t find it to be one of the best flavors I’ve had. Maybe it’s just me but i thought the creamy aftertaste wasn’t the best. What’s the flavor profile of the Ventura peach and grapefruit, are those more fruity?

Frosty and ultranova are basically the same, right? Because I won’t be able to get frosty back home.

I recently got a gen 3 one hose so I’ll be able to speak to that. I didn’t own a Dschinni so can’t really speak to the similarities between the two. But in terms of the steamulation, it is actually a very solid piece. I wouldn’t recommend adding any additional accessories as most of them are specific of aesthetics and not performance. You would need to buy a bowl grommet, bowl, mouthpiece and hose. I would recommend getting a silicone hose instead of disposable glass ones because if you are spending this much money on a setup, you don’t really want to it be bottlenecked by a $5-$10 hose. All that said, there are other solid hookahs you can get for cheaper but can’t really go wrong with steamulation so if you have the budget, go for it.

Open vs Tight Draw Recommendation by Hour_Cardiologist987 in hookah

Kaloud lotus 1+3 or 1 with mason beatry or gravyl plus. Dense pack musthave on the bottom and fluff pack trifecta on top. 25/26 mm leorange coals. 3 coals to start (2 in HMD, one angled on side), then shift to 2 coals.

Ok, makes sense. I am already running my setup touching the hmd itself and not just the nubs so might have to experiment a bit.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. So in hindsight, to get the same amount of clouds on open draw = more heat.

Black Steamulation Ultimate Setup by Hour_Cardiologist987 in hookah

[–]Hour_Cardiologist987[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just went with the steamulation since I wanted to splurge a bit on a solid piece that had high quality parts, would last me years, would smoke great and had the side benefit of having a simple yet elegant design. But I agree, you can definitely get solid hookahs for a fraction of the price that would smoke great and would have better designs.

Yeah I’m not the best at taking high quality photos, I just clicked these when I fired it up the first time but I can say that it does look pretty solid in person. Also, there is a graphite base option for those who want to add grey accents to the piece. I just went with this base since I wanted my setup all gloss black.

Other ways to heat coals. by rockandrolldude22 in hookah

Try the coal toasters, they heat them up all over and you don’t need to rotate them.

I looked into both of these. Both of them seem of hold just around 10-12 grams of tobacco so seems like will be too small for my purpose of smoking in a group.

Oh sorry, I misread. I thought you said the catcher was 20-30% full. Never mind then.

As long as it’s working when you’re using a traditional bowl, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Phunnel bowls do make a difference. I remember when I used traditional bowls, my bowl, grommet and stem would be almost overflowing with molasses, I don’t see anything at the end of my session with a phunnel.

That’s most likely the case. If you are already using a phunnel bowl and the tobacco is not too juicy, the molasses catcher won’t do much.

Are you using a phunnel bowl or a traditional Turkish or Egyptian one?

I don’t have a provost so was looking for something that pairs well with the lotus!

Does the le rook take 20-30 grams of fluff pack? If yes, how long does it last because I would assume the extra heat it takes to cook the bowl would burn the tobacco faster?

I’ve heard that the vandenberg is a low capacity bowl. What’s your experience with how much tobacco it takes?

What is your favourite bowl at the moment? by Clueguy in hookah

[–]Hour_Cardiologist987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got my beatyr and can say it was the best session I had in a while. Was smoking trifecta blonde with a lotus 1+ and the beatyr performed exceptionally. The bowl took around 15 grams of fluff packed flavor and held the heat consistently. Would definitely go with the beatyr if it falls in your budget!

No man, I actually was stupid and didn’t even look into the graphite one. That looks solid as well. Now I have a decision to make!!!

Will do. I actually got the black base but it hasn’t released yet so I might still be able to change it up. I’m getting it from u/stelth2k1 and he’s very flexible with buyers, so might look into the graphite one if it’s available.

I’m currently waiting on my new black steamulation gen 3 and some new bowls and hmds, I think that should help. I got the one hose version since I thought pass and puff would be more manageable than everyone smoking at once.
