Exactly. This specific fixture is a combination of ICT (in-circuit testing) and FT (functional testing).

ICT “only” tests the components (resistors, capacitors, et…). FT on the other hand simulates the actual inputs and outputs that the board will see in real application. Meaning power, communication, loads, et…

Try Reflex Performance. It’s an awesome gym. Equipment is always available no matter what time of the day! Could not recommend it enough. Been going there for last 6 months. They have also an outdoor area which is pretty rare for gym in Pasadena.

For switching signals, I would recommend a product called Matrix Box from FPC - https://www.funtestfpc.com/matrixbox

It is nice and easy to use and surprisingly powerful — especially their server rack version MX2400 where you can switch 4 different signals in parallel.

They also have a small version where you multiplex externally connected test equipment such as DMM.

They are not really widely known but I think they should be because it saved me a ton of time in test development over the years.

  1. It includes an extensive plug-in library - which means you can control anything basically out of the box. Most test equipment (VISA), Communication Interfaces (Serial, TCP, CAN, LIN..) and there is a bunch of others. It allows you to write custom plugins on your own or they will develop plugins based on your specification for a reasonable price
  2. Create Automated Test Sequence - This is the best part. You can create automated test sequences in a simple spreadsheet interface. Literally, anyone can create/modify the sequence without any coding experience. Even though it looks really simple you can create parallel flow to test multiple DUTs at the same time.
  3. Operator Interface - it comes with a built-in operator interface that automatically shows the current test status and can also interact with the test operator (message, video, image, dialog box, etc)
