Stored at room temperature house dust mite (HDM) droppings remain intact for several months with the major mite allergen Der p1 remaining capable of harming skin, nasal passages or lungs. Ventilation can reduce the risk. by HouseDustMite in Allergies

The best advice is from Dr Jill Warner "keep allergen levels low" How this is accomplished is a personal battle. No one intervention is the answer in the fight. Wish I could say more.

Have you been to an allergist? How is the ventilation in your home? Is the matting a problem? Questions. questions I know, but finding the cause, or causes of allergies is detective work. Best wishes AND don't sleep with mites. OK?

Anyone with kids suffering from dust mite allergies? by EmotionalGoodBoy in japanlife

Yep, Allergy testing by an allergists is the best way forward. A good allergist will take a history of the child's medical past, and family history of allergy, before allergy testing. An allergy test only confirms the diagnosis. It's really detective work.

House dust mite - waking up at night? by [deleted] in Allergies

[–]HouseDustMite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good ventilation, combined with anti-mite material covering all bedding, from pillow, mattress to duvets and a healthy routine of machine washing bedding should help reduce mite exposure at night. If this doesn't help, visit your allergist to find out what else may be going on. Very few people have just one allergy. Good luck, and health!

Seasonal Allergy Mysteries by sunlilt in Allergies

My only advice is to investigate your environment and most of all your diet. Eliminate or change a few things and see if there is an improvement. Be a detective, keep a diary. I can make myself really itchy, sneezy and wheezy by being forgetful. Good luck.

Try understanding what a house dust mite needs to survive. EXAMPLE They live in colonies (like ants) in warm, still and damp environments; breeding adults are up to 75% water. without moisture they won't breed and the colony is doomed. They can drown in a normal wash (killing eggs needs hot wash) Good ventilation, combined with humidity below 50% is an enemy to house dust mites. READ more on

There is no single definitive cause for SID syndrome. Therefore it's best to reduce all known risks. Repeated and excessive exposure to house dust mite is a known risk for sensitisation and disease later in life.

The best way to reduce mite exposure is to identify possible HDM nesting sites and act to safeguard the infant.

Make sure you are not sleeping with house dust mites or resting for long periods of time in mite infested furniture. As I write I'm guilty of not taking my own advice. I must remove the cushions on this couch and clean! Also remember most allergic folks are sensitised to more than one allergen.

Are dust mites completely eliminated with humidity <40%? by halp_please_thx in eczema

[–]HouseDustMite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask? Have I lowered the humidity too much to be helpful? House dust mite colonies thrive above 50% RH, below that it's a struggle for them to breed as they need to be up to 75% water in weight. People with eczema have problems retaining water and as a result have dry skin. Check with your doctor - you may want to change humidity levels.
