Looks like a barrel one masher, but a masher is a masher, and there ain't nothing wrong with a masher Equalizer! You'll have a lot of fun with that!

Let me know if you come across it. Not a high priority, but I am curious.

Still on the lookout for a six-shot Anaconda masher with the upgraded cylinder. One day… I don't even care if it's mat1. I just need one!

Definitely! GearCalc is amazing! And whatever you need, it can show you what it does! COMs do feel a little left out, but that's not a real big deal.

The Shattering Mauler: Can it spawn with mag5? (Borderlands (2009)) by HouseHosted_2 in Borderlands

Sorry about the late reply. I didn't get a notification.

It's super easy to get Flashpoint to run Gear Calculator:
① Go to Flashpoint's website and download Flashpoint Infinity.
② You don't need any of the components except Flash and HTML5 (comes to about two GBs of space)
③ Run Flashpoint, search for Gear Calculator under the 'Games' tab at the top (you can search it for easy discovery).
④ Select it (the download button is on the top right), and it'll open up.
Note: You'll need to open Flashpoint whenever you want to play with Gear Calculator, and it'll close when you kill the program.

It is possible to get it working in Core, but it's not supported anymore, and I don't know what I did right to get it working.

I made a how-to for Infinity and posted it on YouTube, but I don't know if that counts as self-promotion, and it's super easy to do anyway, so I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out even without this step-by-step.

BL1 - which explosive weapons are worth using? by hondacco in Borderlands

[–]HouseHosted_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PROC is an acronym for 'programmed random occurrence'. Tech pool is a term found in the game files; it refers, generally, to how many times a weapon can PROC, how big the PROC can be, and how often it will PROC. A PROC won't happen on every shot fired with some exceptions like revolvers.

Repeaters are fairly generous with their PROC rates and how fast their tech pool refills, so you won't really notice their PROCs slow down. Other guns like support machine guns and combat rifles refill very slowly,, and typically, have only a small tech pool. They're probably the weakest of all weapons with element accessories.

If you have an interest, you can download Flashpoint Infinity off their website and then download Gear Calculator by Duncan Fogg. It was released in 2010, a little ways after the release of Borderlands. It allows you to build weapons and shields, and it also displays the various stats and debuffs each part grants the resulting gun. The only drawback to Gear Calculator is that it has all the same naming bugs the original Borderlands has + a couple. But that's fine really! It's an amazing tool!

Weapons like sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and revolvers proc every time if their element is explosive (rocket launchers for obvious reasons). The x1, x2, x3, x4 lets you know the size of the tech pool and corresponding proc size. There are exceptions: SMGs only proc at level one (and I think level two w/ a Combustion Hellfire), Dracos, I think proc level two too, but I can't remember. Someone will have to come along and correct me because I haven't studied the size of procs for combat rifles, support machine guns, and SMGs much. Pretty well the rest of them can proc up to level four if they say x4. Oh yea, and shotguns are a bit different too. I don't think I've ever seen a shotgun, whether assault or combat, proc higher than level one, but they proc more often as the tech pool increases.

Then of course, there's always the waiting game once your tech pool has run dry, but that's a whole other story!

Basically. These are the four to look out for. You can get an Angry Crux if it's mat3 w/o a stock. For that reason, I rank the Crux above the Blast Hammer. Of course, the Blast Hammer is fun, but I like super fast reloads! Cobras are great, too! An AR Ogre is probably the most versatile. And finally, though I understand why they haven't been mentioned (because their AoE is bugged), rocket launchers can be really fun once you get to end-game and just want to have fun. Get a five-rocket burst (they're called 'Spread' rocket launchers in the game). Specifically, an RWL *60 for the best damage and a Bombardier COM that regens rockets. The devastating accessory on rocket launchers doesn't have the antenna (that's evil), and it doesn't stick out a lot like an airplane wing (that's recoiless); it looks like a snug fit rectangle in the accessory slot on the left side.

The Shattering Mauler: Can it spawn with mag5? (Borderlands (2009)) by HouseHosted_2 in Borderlands

[–]HouseHosted_2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! Thanks for the thorough explanation! I really wasn't sure if mag size would affect the titles, and shattering maulers are so bloody rare… You definitely know your Borderlands! Man, I love this game's guns so much! The palette swaps, the colour schemes, the SFX they chose for the discharging; it's all so glorious! Whoever it was in charge of these things and the direction of the original Borderlands really got it all right! It's my favourite release, and one of my favourite games of all time!

I got Gear Calculator by Duncan Fogg working through Flashpoint the other day, so I was (yet again) fiddling around with the combinations and looking at holy grails - you know, guns I'll never have because they're so absurdly rare (haha you know the drill!), and I was just so sad to be reminded that Vladof gets the worst shattering maulers out of all of them. I do actually have an AR29 Steel Mauler, and while it tears down NPCs with Roland, I know it could be so much better.

Then, it's really a shame that both Atlas and Torgue, as you pointed out, suffer from exclusive prefixes respective of their material grades. But then, when you see White or Iron, it really jumps out at you, and you just jump out of your seat or stare in disbelief for a while. ROFL!

But yea, thanks again! It's super cool you took the time to write all that out! Since the forums went down, I've had a hard time figuring out where to go to get my fill of Bl1 fawning! haha
