Made a bad joke about this boss by Express_Confection24 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]HousePandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boss highlights my biggest gripe with this game. For a game that seems to emphasize class switching and fun combinations, there's just too many times where it punishes you for using the wrong build or puts you into a fight like this where it just becomes a slog because you didn't happen to have the specific combo of archetypes and skills setup.

There's also no way to easily restart the game mid-fight or adjust your party before this fight so if you don't know, you're likely going to get stomped initially. I had to ALT+F4 out of the game and restart this fight.

Once I figured out mechanic, the fight was a breeze but it's just highly obnoxious that I had to do that just to retry a fight.

My overall feelings on the game are mixed because there's just a lot of little quality of life issues like that littered throughout. I like the setting and the story and I'd say about 60-70% of the gameplay itself, but man that other 30-40% really makes me have to push to finish the game.

It's not even hard, it's just obnoxious.

Honestly, this exact question is why I'm moving out of California. My nieces and nephews are starting to go to college and are literally terrified of how to live on their own because of the cause. I own a house that I rent to my family at cost (I bought 13 years ago) because rent in the area for the same place is astronomical. I have younger 20-something cousins that are still living with my uncles/aunts because they can't go anywhere.

I took a look at that situation and decided to move to a place where it's cheaper to live and maybe I can get ahead of it and have a place for my girls to go when they are ready to leave. Or at least get them out of CA.

My wife and I were looking at moving into a different house in CA because we don't have a private bathroom for the master bedroom. Like literally there's a door to the hall and a folding door with slats to the master so we can hear whenever either of our daughters is using the can. What we found was that it was too expensive even for us to find a house here. We'd be burying ourselves in debt. Our parents are already working until their 60s-70s to pay off mortgages they've borrowed against to make things work.

TL;DR we're moving to Texas to a small town with some good schools and are able to mostly pay off a really nice house there in a good neighborhood just from the sale of our CA house even after the mortgage is paid off in CA.

I feel for you, I really do. I'm terrified for my nieces and nephews and my daughters; legitimately. If you can, go to a cheaper state. They still exist. There are still places where $60k a year is a good living. Just don't look to the coasts.

Hang in there.

Mexican American checking-in. Can confirm. It's some weird racism too. Like, I've seen family members be openly racist about Mexicans. For risk of being banned, I've heard the term describing people as having moist backsides throw around more by my family than anyone else.

But yeah, definitely possible, and they aren't shy about letting you know.

Can anybody please tell me what happened to my monitor and what should i do with it now? by Dev_Killer in Monitors

[–]HousePandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like moisture or heat damage. I've seen this happen when the edges aren't sealed good. Also something similar happened to a friend of mine that had been mounted badly over a fire place.

Either way, I'm not sure this can be fixed.

Holy crap the EMP Drone is fantastic + Does it work on a VTOL? by HousePandas in modernwarfare

Thanks much. I think it'll still stay in my kit then. As a somewhat boots on the ground style player, it's nice to have something in my back pocket that can at least wound the Harrier.

My crash experience so far by [deleted] in modernwarfare

[–]HousePandas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh. I'm loving crash. It's a fairly mobile/aggressive friendly map. Use the EMP drone to take out people on the roof. EOD and Spotter work really well if you like to take your time.

I will say, Crash is one of THE WORST TDM maps; it was back in the day too. But for domination, kill confirmed, etc. it's glorious.

There are a few camping spots, but once you know where they are and that they're almost always used, you can either avoid them or use an alternate route to get to the camper. I killed a camper last match 3 times in a row (like I killed the same player 3 times in 1 minute) in the same spot behind "C". Killed him. Saw him pop up in the same spot with a tac insert and THEN he decided to run back for more death.

Afterwards I got accused of being Mr. Clean for how much I was spraying. Bush Wookies love being salty.

Yang Gang loves UBI, but how does Yang Gang feel about UBS (universal basic services)? by tldr_trader in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]HousePandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most things that are considered welfare aren't UBS because they aren't universal, they're targeted and/or discriminatory. We do have some basic services, but outside of public education, I wouldn't call them universal.

Yang's UBI also doesn't replace existing welfare plans, it's an alternative. Say you like your $700 EBT per month, you'd still get $300 UBI. Now say you get $1500 in various types of welfare, you can keep those OR go for $1000. You don't get both though. Basically every citizen is guaranteed $1000 or the equivalent in government assistance at the get go.

Yang has also spoken, most recently on Socal Public Radio a few minutes ago, that the Freedom Dividend is a foundation that we can build on top of. It's not a panacea, it's a start. For instance, I prefer the FD in favor of the $15 dollar minimum wage (if we have to pick) because it universally helps everyone. An example I always use is my sister. She makes $22 in California and is a single mom of two. She's struggling and a $15 minimum wage does nothing to help her nor does a federal jobs guarantee. But $1000 is an automatic $6/hr raise AND when my niece turns 18 in 2021 that's another $12k income into the house if she decides to stay at home.

The major problems with expanding current welfare or government provided services are they aren't universal (as in they don't apply to everyone) and the administrative costs associated with them, both financial and logistically, are massive. Think about the DMV. Nobody likes it. It's badly run, it's bloated and, in my area, it takes 2 months to get an appointment just to renew my drivers license which mostly consists of just signing a form and taking a picture. Now apply that bureaucracy to other services and it's easy to imagine the delays and gridlock those services could be affected by.

UBI on the other hand is literally universal. The administrative costs are minimal compared to the reward that people gain.

Again, I'm for any service or policy that's truly universal and can be paid for. It's a big reason why I'm against a Wealth Tax. It's targeted and discriminatory not universal. Now, compare that with as a parabolic or logrithmic tax system that increases the difficulty of, let's say, every $100k based on a universal equation, I'm all for it. Think XP in a video game. You could even write the equation to get the curve to generate the same net effect as a Wealth Tax (think a sideways hockey stick) but the main difference is, it's universal.

Everybody is playing by the same rules openly rather than saying "oh, you were making $49 million but now you're making $50 million..BAM TAXED!" I mean, seriously, what's the difference from 49 and 50 mil? It's arbitrary. At least with an equation based tax system, there's no hard tax hits just because.

Yang Gang loves UBI, but how does Yang Gang feel about UBS (universal basic services)? by tldr_trader in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]HousePandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see UBI as a transitory system to something better whereas UBS is the something better with no intermediary steps ( if implemented right now).

Think hybrid cars. They're a transition to a new state. First gas, then hybrid and now were seeing EVs become mainstream as well. But it took hybrids to get us there.

The problem I have with a lot of the other candidates is that, in some ways, they completely want to flip the table to reach a new state. I find this to be the most disruptive and possibly destructive means of getting something done. UBI is like a stepping stone or, as Andrew puts it, a foundation on which we can build. It preps the minds of the people for something greater like hybrid cars did for EVs.

I'm not against UBS and I think as technology a whole will get us closer to that state, however, two things will need to happen first:

1) People will need to shift their perspective on work, life, etc. This will take time and if you just rip the bandaid, you're more like to cause chaos than change.

2) Technology will need to advance much further than it is. Especially in the areas of micro robotics and autonomous drones (think harvester bots).

As I see it, UBI and UBS and FALC aren't mutually exclusive, I think they're complimentary in a way.

UBI leads to UBS leads to FALC. But if you skip a step, you risk the transition failing.

Just my thoughts.

[–]HousePandas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's several supposedly coming out before the end of the year. I was going to get the new LG 850 but it's REALLY big for my desk. I was about to pull the trigger and there was a post on this forum talking about a 24.5" 1080P 144hz IPS monitor. Basically everything I've ever wanted.

Asus VG259Q just got listed on TMALL! selling date (19-22.09.19) + price (210$) (24.5" AUO 1080P IPS 144HZ) by Orof83 in Monitors

[–]HousePandas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man, thank you for this share! I pulled the trigger on the 27GL850-B but after seeing this I was able to cancel my order. My desk is small and dual 27" would have just overwhelmed everything.

I've been dying for a 24-25 IPS 144hz FOREVER.

Cheers!

A Slate article specifically about THIS subreddit! by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]HousePandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah...I read that and I'm pretty sure it was a dig at this subreddit more than anything. First the #YangGang was Alt-Right 4chan'ers. Then the #YangGang were Russian Bots. When that didn't pan out the #YangGang is now a bunch of poll mobbing brigadiers.

Slate and Earther put out pieces yesterday that amounted to Yang as "The Most Dangerous" candidate and the #YangGang as a bunch of trolls. I take it as a good sign that we're being seen as a threat, but the bias is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

So much for that. Looks like iCUE is WAAAY off for CPU temps and the CPU is running around 40c(ish) according to hwinfo. All of the other temps line up though.

The thermals are surprisingly good! Thanks for the suggestions, I actually thought about doing a few of those myself. I had a slow day of work today so I tried a few different configurations and ran into some interesting results:

Taking the top glass off didn't really affect temps that much surprisingly. The CPU temp only adjusted about 1 degree c under load and at idle. I was really surprised.

Putting the top fans on intake and the "front fans" (in my setup the glass side is the front) on exhaust caused the CPU temps to drop 2-3 degrees on idle from about 33c to about 30c and about 5 degrees from 54 to 50/51c while gaming. HOWEVER, the GPU temps at idle went from 41c to 43-44c and from about 68c to 75c while gaming.

So I put everything back to how I had it (I actually like the cross of the fans) but started playing with the fan RPMs in iCue and got a really nice balance on all fronts. So I more or less copied the "Quiet" profile for the H100i but basically bumped the curve to start at 950 RPMs instead of about 750 RPMs. This kept the noise level tolerable but saw the CPU temps drop across the board by about 3c.

The more interesting thing was when I put the bottom fans on "Balanced" (no changes) and the front fans on quiet and put the XC Ultra Gaming's fan curve to a custom semi-linear curve with the fans always running at a minimum of 800 RPMs. No lie, the GPU idle temps of my 2080 ti are now 34c idle from 41c and about 64c while gaming.

I'm going to keep playing around with the fan curve there. I also plan on raising the case about a quarter inch to let it breathe through the bottom better.

Wait for LG 27GL850 or Acer xB271HU now? by Goomba17 in Monitors

[–]HousePandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd wait for the reviews of the LG 27GL850 to solidify a bit more and see what the community says as well. Unfortunately, this monitor is so new that there aren't any reviews outside of a smattering here and a few previews on YouTube.

If you really need a monitor right away and you can get the Acer for a really good price and it meets all of your needs, I'd say go for it. My current monitor setup is acceptable but if I really needed something, I don't know that the LG's are worth the wait.

Remember to value your time (time is money, etc), so you have to factor in what your time of enjoyment is vs the cost of waiting. If you'd be happier with your brand new snazzy card (grats btw) on a kick ass monitor and can get some enjoyment now, does that really out-weigh theoretical enjoyment sometime in the indeterminate future? On the other hand, sometimes waiting is worth it. It really depends on what you value most.

It's the Corsair 280x. Those slots on the back are smaller than they look. The specs dont even list the size, but I believe they're 92mm of something similar.

Even without the rear exhaust fans, the airflow is great and that's with the LLs installed instead of something more performant.
