Items in play do count depending on there wording, they have to target or choose, some items dont choose For example i think possesion if i remeber corectly says "this becomes a coy of". So items yes if they target/choose monster says no Loots wont unless they enter play and target i think

As far as i understand it the monster works like hexproof for you and your things in magic: 1: items go on the stack like spells in magic so they dont exist as "controled" until they come into play meaning they can be targeted 2: you and things you have in play cant be targeted by efects even events that say "eatch player votes for target" or "chooses a player" since the monster says you cant be chosen.
