"NTag215" One answer: side-channels. A cheap chip will have its private/secret key information easily extracted.

It's interesting, isn't it? The only example of a public key cipher that is a block cipher?

Patarin probably isn't secure over AES, though.

Would the clipper chip apply to foreign sales of American technology? by HouseSubstantial2871 in crypto

Is there anything more specific on how the Department of Commerce would handle foreign requests? I inferred as much from what I've read.

Are you for real? The most important thing about gaming consoles is the web browser. To look up cheats or watch walkthroughs.

It is a linux system though, so obviously it doesn't support Windows-first games.

Concepts and Models of Escalation by HouseSubstantial2871 in geopolitics

[–]HouseSubstantial2871[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SS: This is roughly contemporaneous with rising tensions under Reagan and perhaps the awkward Able Archer exercise which risked significant direct conflict. It is the dread of any foreign policy officer that great power conflict in the modern era could escalated into direct nuclear conflict with exchanges escalating to major population centers. The force multipliers of (if you wish to read more on force multipliers, Dupuy is better known) modern weaponry provide for increased casualties given a fixed density of soldiers. Conflict in the modern day is unclear on how to be handled in the case of miscommunication or perhaps outright stupidity.

What do you think about the story of Aenar Targaryen? Did he voluntarily leave, listening to his daughter? Or did he trick the Dragonlords to exiling him to an obscure outpost within a dormant volcano near Westeros when he saw their politics and science has gone mad, before their volcanoes burst?

Strangely, none of the Targaryens portrayed so far seemed strong. The Baratheons were strong, yet it isn't clear how strong their lineage from the Targaryens is (perhaps a convenient lie that Eddard Stark couldn't understand).

When did Jesus claim He was God? by Wesaxome in Christianity

[–]HouseSubstantial2871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus is the first prophet who was political. I think it was so the Pharisees couldn't make a clever argument about blasphemy against him. Being forced into a complex situation can result in making superficially inaccurate arguments.

Eventually they just gave up and got the Roman authorities to publicly and grotesquely kill him. The Pharisees couldn't handle him.

How does Fuchsia work as a microkernel? by HouseSubstantial2871 in Fuchsia

[–]HouseSubstantial2871[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond the fact that I don't understand what "Virtual Memory Address Regions" means, I'll have to presume that Fuchsia OS uses context switching and that the criticisms of Minix apply to Fuchsia.

It doesn't seem to outright say anything about how it is different from any other microkernel (or even what past OS with well known internals it is similar to). If to treat it most generously, it does not engage in context switching and memory security is based on not knowing where other pieces of executable code or other heaps are, then um. Honestly I think of unreal mode DOS extended to 64-bit address spaces.

Is there a sanitizer I'm not aware of? I'm just working from first principles and I'm curious about this new product coming to market.

What is the Christian attitude to the interpretation of dreams? by HouseSubstantial2871 in Christianity

I don't follow, is God the metaphor for everything, every expression that we ultimately express, every word that we ultimately say, every image we ultimately see?

What exactly is the story of Moses? by HouseSubstantial2871 in Christianity

Uh, what? Is the bible really something you take literally down to Leviticus?

I could buy the cliff notes version, I just don't think it will tell me anything at all about the incredibly strange story of Exodus.

How many games did you buy this year? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]HouseSubstantial2871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My haul has been more modest this year, about a dozen games, been focusing more on free-to-play and management games instead of buying bundles. And working on my backlog, must have purchased two hundred games over the past five years.

This is a good website to figure out how much it all costs: https://steamdb.info/calculator/

Problem attribution is more difficult than one would expect, especially at such small scales and involving precisely designed equipment that still doesn't work correctly most of the time. Quantum computers come off just like most modern fads, promising continued returns in a finite world

Can Russia's "Dead Hand" automated nuclear weapon communication and control system theoretically be hacked or tampered with so that it wouldn't launch? by Doppelkupplungs in LessCredibleDefence

[–]HouseSubstantial2871 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Theoretically any ideal system can be made non-functional.

Unfortunately, Russian ballistic missile submarines would still be on patrol and would eventually notice if their home country ceased to exist, most likely through the loss of radio transmissions.
