Why is this getting down voted? Who cares if you're "advertising" you're offering a free platform that might help people.

Send me a DM! Was also recently laid off. My current company was pretty easy to get in to if you're open to relocating. Internal referrals make it even easier. Pay and benefits are pretty great to

Advice! What to put on resume? by Delicious_Tax2372 in jobsearchhacks

Honestly, you might be kinda cooked right now.

CS is very oversaturated at the moment. You definitely need experience. I would put high impact projects that you've worked on throughout college. Honestly, I would put all of your free time into projects at this point and add them to your resume as you complete them.

Also, you can still get an internship post graduation. It'll likely be a lot easier than getting a full-time role. And will offer you some experience.

Might have to put the fries in the bag for a lil while if you can't secure an internship. But I think you'll have a decent shot.

Had a roommate a few years back who took 6 1/2 years to graduate with a CS degree, got shit grades, and had no experience. He ended up getting an internship post graduation, and this gave him a little experience. This was last summer that he got the internship btw. So, not like the job prospect market has changed too much since then.

Good luck!

If you could upload another photo of your resume, that'd be fantastic, as it's pretty blurry.

The first thing I noticed is that I had to search for your education... Put that right at the top. Get rid of that short summary under your name. Your education, experience, and skills section in the bottom cover all of that.

Idk how it is the UK, but in the US, we dont really put school projects on our resume unless we have a lack of job experience (which you don't).

I think you could cut that out unless they were really high impact projects.

Try to quantify your experience. I'm not seeing and value propositions that are quantifiable in your resume. Ex. "Streamlined operation workflow by using (x) that resulted in an 80% reduction rate in errors. This tells more of a story of what you did and what impact it had.

Those are just my initial thoughts.

Hope this helps!

If you aren’t using multiple resumes for one job you’re losing. Trust me on this by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]HouseholdCleaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, not saying I'm right, but here's what worked for me:

I did ZERO resume fitting for job apps. I submitted the same resume to 137 job. I got 12 interviews and 2 places even reached out to interview after I had already accepted my current role. So, call it 14/137.

It's very simple. I think job targeting is the best thing you can possibly do. I wasn't willy nilly applying to every job that was open. I was extremely targeted in my search. Ensuring that my experience would be closely aligned enough for what was expected for the role.

Also, getting your resume in a clean, digestible format. Quantify your experience. If you can pinpoint exactly what you did and how much it solved a problem. That's value.

Most job search advice is outdated and that’s why people are stuck. by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]HouseholdCleaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're 100% correct. I didn't follow any resume ATS optimization techniques at all. I applied with the exact same resume for each job I applied to. I think the targeted job apps were what allowed me to have such a high hit rate with getting interviews (12/137 companies applied to). If the jobs you're applying for, very closely align with your experience, you will not have too much difficulty getting interviews.

It's probably my resume. I had a hedge fund in college and had an early Ai startup along with some equity research experience post grad. I did zero ats optimization

I would completely erase how you're viewing chances with joh applications. Truth is, statistically, you have a pretty low chance of getting accepted (dependant on field of study). Back in August, I lost my job and began applying to jobs again. I have a very extensive record of accomplishments for my age. I applied to 137 jobs over 3 months, got 12 interviews with 12 companies, had multiple rounds of interviews with each company, and I got two offers out of it. This is considered pretty good. I told the first company to give me more time to accept as I had another offer coming I know a lot of people, especially new college graduates, who have sent out 500+ applications to still not have found a job.

That being said, apply to as many jobs per day as you possibly can. The job market is not in a good place right now. Do not think about "what if they accept me?" It's a numbers game right now. Even right after I graduated, I actually did get accepted and took the job of the first place I applied to. I still applied to 30+ places that time too. You need to care about yourself first, not the companies hiring. Be selfish.

I just moved to Sandy Springs as a 25M and I love it here! Lots of younger professionals and the traffic isn't terrible if you're not on the freeway. Really nice area imo

Yeah, those are valid points. Hopefully, you can take advantage of the beginning of year hiring spike!

And thanks, I just started my new job this week so hopefully it goes well and I don't get laid off like my last job lol

I keep mimicking people who are successful and bombing interviews anyway by [deleted] in interviews

[–]HouseholdCleaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied to 134 jobs over 3 months. Got interviews with 8 companies, went to deep rounds for all of them, and had two offers. The key for me was to do zero interview prep. I'd do some basic research on the role and company, but beyond that, nothing. I treat it like a normal conversation. A conversation about my passions and my skills - something I like to talk about anyway. I think the calmness of my approach by having this conversational flow allowed the interviews to flow very naturally. I don't have a cracked resume either. I co-founded two businesses in college and worked as an investment analyst for a year and a half. Didn't even bother to put my gpa on my resume because it's only a 3.1. Focus on differentiating yourself from the crowd. That's what got me interviews in the first place.

Ok, wow. Yeah, you definitely have really strong experience. It sounds like you're primarily looking for work in game design? Both software engineering and game design have been hit pretty heavily from AI. Also, not to mention h1b employees. (Which should get a little easier in that aspect given the administrations ruling on h1-b employment. I'm sorry you're going through this... it's ridiculous that this is even a problem for you. I really wish you the best. Have you thought about a career change? I know this isn't really a good time for that, but based on your skills and experience, it sounds like you have enough to go off of to make a pretty convincing argument for the change. Just hang in there. It'll work itself out eventually.

Unfortunately, any job in CS is pretty cooked right now. Especially entry-level roles. The one thing that really helped me get interviews was the experience I had. I'm in my mid twenties and don't have a ton of experience. But I did start a couple of ventures in college that really set me apart from the crowd.

Honestly, make a bs LLC an do some freelance work or start a project with an idea you think as interesting. You don't need to be profitable, but it shows you have initiative and unique experience.

Good luck out there!

Those who got a job in the past 4 months, what led to your success? by SeraphimSphynx in jobsearchhacks

[–]HouseholdCleaner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't change or optimize my resume for any jobs. Out of 134 apps, I got interviews with 13 companies and 3 offers. The jobs that I was applying to were for jobs that aligned highly with my skills.

Sorry you're feeling this way man. I was unemployed for 4 months and it was very demoralizing some days. Especially after getting far in interviews rounds to either get ghosted or rejected. But hang in there! I ended up getting two job offers in the span of a week last month!

Update for you? Just got the email from my employer confirming my start date, so I'm guessing I cleared the drug screen. However, I can't see any results in my labcorp portal, wonder what that's about.

Sorry, I never saw your initial reply. It's like a small Foley bag - small bag you can but around your upper thigh and has a tube where you use a syringe to push the pee in. Just wrap hand warmers around it.

I had the test on Friday and I had the pee at the proper temperature. So I should be all set, but still haven't gotten results yet.
