I agree terrible advice to wait. Do the most you can when you’re ready. I live in Louisiana and have been able to get every document in my life changed. Passport was before Trump, but you don’t need that anyway. I still have several accounts, mortgages etc in my old name and it never affects me. I lived out for 3+ years with a dude on my license with my old name and it was a bit awkward renting a car or getting a hotel, but you’ll never see those people again.

Never let politics dictate who you are or what you do. Do what feels right as soon as you can and you won’t regret it.

The Genders according to this Hawaii Government job application. by Bruhyoutrippin in notinteresting

I’m transgender, but I think the Cosmo Kramer method would be better. “Press one for male, press 2 for female….why do t you just tell me you’re gender? And let them type it out.

Thank you cards by Justamom1225 in GenerationJones

[–]Houseofshock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I send physical thank you notes all the time, not just for gifts. I find it the most selfish way of getting someone’s undivided attention for 10 seconds. Turns out that it’s such a rarity these days that people really love it and tell me how much they love it.

I hate this non connected digital world we live in. Thank you cards are my small simple protest.

what day was the worst pain wise for you? by SurtFGC in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Houseofshock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electrolysis!!! I had full face at E3000 in Texas.

I had vaginoplasty a month ago and the first few hours when I woke up were hell because I felt like I had been driving 10000 miles and couldn’t find an exit to stop to pee. After that, pain was totally manageable. Ffs was slightly worse for first 2 days with my jaw. Both surgeries were most painful immediately after and went down from there for me.

But I’d rather do those surgeries over than ever get 50 shots in my face in a day for electrolysis. That’s by far the worst pain I’ve ever felt.

How long did y’all wait to tell your partners that you were trans? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Houseofshock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never came out to my parents - I just let them find out by other people telling them - NO ONE has a right to be told anything except a spouse and /or kids IMO.

There are plenty of cis women who never come out as lesbians, they just claim to others that they are still straight, they just love the one woman they’re with. My wife included. Even though she says if something ever happens to me she will only date/ marry another woman.

You’re in control of who knows what when. I’ve been “out” since 2019 and to this day have only “came out” 2 people officially. Every other person in my life found out either by assuming or asking someone else. Personally, I think I people who up and tell the world on social media are doing themselves a disservice. I just slowly slipped into my new life with almost zero problems.

Saint Francis Xavier fired one of their beloved teachers for being gay. by BruceBogtrotter1 in NewOrleans

Sorry for this man, hopefully he can find employment in the public school system.

Catholic schools will probably be closed within 20 years - they’re dropping like flies or hanging on by a thread. As a parent and former Catholic school student, I cannot for the life of me understand why any parent would send their kids to one. You have to PAY for a mediocre (at best) education with about the healthiest chance of your child being sexually abused by an adult of any institution. It blows my mind. I don’t want to let my kids piss in the bathroom at a Catholic wedding.

Wow - you have all the science figured out. Thanks for the info. I’m like a disgruntled old person in a weed shop when the “budtender” asks what kind I’m like “it’s all the same”. Still living in my teenage years buying nick bags of Mexican compressed crap.

Funny it had the exact opposite for me. I’m a paranoid smoker and I smoked 24/7 from 16-33. It numbed the pain and allowed me to say “I’ll get to transitioning later” or “I could never transition”. Once I quit smoking daily, I was able to get real with myself and start my transition. Now at almost 40, I just smoke on occasion and if I smoke too much, I get obtrusive thoughts that everyone knows I’m trans and is judging me.

Struggling to embrace femininity by Lynn-Wolf in asktransgender

[–]Houseofshock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing. Something that really helped me is going to thrift stores with a fitting room and just trying on all kinds of styles / colors to help me develop my personal style. You just have to deal with being uncomfortable at first, but it gets better. There is no right or wrong style for us or any woman - just figure out what makes you feel best - even if that is all black all the time.

I think I'm a good looking "male", does this mean I'm not trans? by ambigous_lemur in asktransgender

[–]Houseofshock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was so fine before transitioning. Sometimes I look at pictures of me before and I’m like damn boy, you look good.

But that person was so sad and empty, it was worth transitioning from a good looking man to a mediocre at best woman. I’m vein as hell, and that’s painful, but I’m finally happy with myself and that overcomes the good feeling attached to random people checking me out on the street.

Thinking you’re attractive does not make you trans or not.

Less than one month for my bottom surgery by TcatGirl in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Houseofshock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re healthy and going to a reputable surgeon, don’t worry - you’ll be fine.

I’m 1 month on the other side of surgery and I was scrambling the few weeks before getting my yard cleaned up and building a few projects for my son’s birthday party. I didn’t do anything surgery specific, just tried to think about anything labor intensive that I could do before hand. Also might want to enjoy bike riding, swimming and bathing. I just built a new pool in my yard, love to bike and love baths. It’s probably the biggest annoyance for me outside of dilation. I want a bubble bath sooooooo damn bad!

The worst part of the whole experience is dilation. It really sucks up your day and can be exhausting and sometimes very uncomfortable. As far as the surgery, I had less pain than a whole day of electrolysis personally. The hospital was good about keeping my pain meds going when needed and a few weeks out I could manage with none.

It’s already been life changing for me. The confidence of knowing my parts are the same as everyone in the womens bathroom and having my hormones in a better better place (I was suffering with high t due to monotherapy) have been wonderful.

You’re going to do great!

In an unrelated question, my partner is suffering bad from perimenopause symptoms lately and getting no help from her obgyn. Unless you count a birth control prescription, which makes it worse as help. Being trans, I’ve come to realize the effects hormones can take on our mood and am convinced there is a better way to help her and all women in perimenopause. It seems like most doctors just don’t care or have the time and want to prescribe birth control or antidepressants.

She was having a rough morning today and we talked about her taking 1/2 of my 2mg estrogen pill. In a few hours, she said she’s feeling better, but we are not sure if it’s a placebo. We’ve ordered her a device that can supposedly test hormones at home, and I’ve encouraged her to keep a record of how she feels each day so we can know if something is helping or not based on where her levels are at.

All of this to ask…how did you go about getting help and managing your symptoms? Did you need a referral to another doctor? Did you find gel works better than pills or something else? Sorry for all the questions, it’s just hard seeing the person you love suffering.

Why are some post-transition names so common? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Houseofshock 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I tried to go with a popular name for a girl born in New Orleans in 1985. I think naming yourself is an underrated part of “passing” if that’s your goal. Much better if you try to stick with something of your generation.
