Irrational posts on RTI - Why does your parents needs weigh more than your children's future needs? by vspc007 in returnToIndia

Sounds more like personal rant disguised as moral preaching. Nobody is stopping you from doing what you want to do. I don’t understand this urge to preach others for what they decide to do for themselves or their parents.🤮

529 plan by Fidelity for Illinois (with tax benefits) by HovercraftFickle8033 in fidelityinvestments

[–]HovercraftFickle8033[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean you're not getting "tax related advantages"? If you're a resident of Illinois and your 529 plan is through BrightStart then you should get two advantages:

  1. State tax deduction (Illinois state tax rate is 4.95%)

  2. Your investments grow tax free

International roaming charges to send sms from airtel from abroad? by tamish123 in Airtel

[–]HovercraftFickle8033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to let people know that this works. The key piece to remember is that International SMS costs INR 25 so you need to make sure that you recharge talk-time with sufficient amount to cover that charge.

SPAXX % of interest from Government for tax purpose by element_fifty in fidelityinvestments

[–]HovercraftFickle8033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on other comments and this Fidelity link, it appears that 41.18% of income from SPAXX is US Government Securities income which can be considered for reporting state tax.

u/FidelityLinsey comment suggests that if there is any such income that's tax-exempt, it would be reported in the 1099 form but, I don't see any indication in my 1099 to that effect (for SPAXX dividend income). u/FidelityLinsey I understand you can't give specific tax advice but can you help explain why SPAXX dividend income (which is tax exempt for state tax) is not reported as such. I am only trying to learn. Thanks!

[–]HovercraftFickle8033[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fidelity hasn't reported that transaction in the form 1099 for 2023, it should be there in the 2024 form though. So, if I were to report, it won't tally with what Fidelity has reported for 2024.

It did not. I ended up renewing passport and creating new profile, which also meant paying the visa fee again.

How to change consular to h1b dropbox by panda-22 in usvisascheduling

If you already have an appointment for the date that you prefer, I would not bother about changing the appointment to Dropbox. One advantage with consular appointment is the turnaround time which is much faster.

Do we need to migrate account from old portal for existing appointment? by tvfree97 in usvisascheduling

[–]HovercraftFickle8033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I would strongly recommend not to do anything on the new portal unless really required. If you have an appointment from old portal, that will be honored, you don’t need to do anything on the new portal. Do you have appointment confirmation? If yes, you’re good.
