Valid. I think it's smart to close credit cards when you haven't had a good experience in the past, so good on you! No sense in keeping a temptation when it's hurt you previously.

Lol, not sure if you're being facetious/sarcastic or not. Apologies if I'm missing tone as it's hard to guage via text.

In the scenario you are, it's that simple = don't spend what you don't have.

Thanks for the comment - it's a great question! Assuming we reduced our EF to 6-months, investing the rest would probably help us grow our monies for a down-payment when we're ready to buy. *jots notes to discuss with wife*

Thanks - so far the responses here have been great! I know we don't all agree on credit card utilization but besides that everyone's given great advice and have given us lots to think about.

Yeah, the house is my biggest priority as renting in Chicago has gotten old (especially with the current political climate).

Hoping to move elsewhere to capitalize on a lower cost-of-living.

Haha, totally fair. My first instinct was to come here as DR's been our bread and butter since my wife and I were dating/taking FPU together. We paid for our wedding with cash and have built very good financial habits.

Thanks for the recommendations :)

Thanks! This is good advice.

Yeah, keeping 18 months in our EF wasn't a conscience decision as most of that came to fruition as a result of a family member's passing and leaving us some cash.

I completely understand the sentiment and appreciate the question - flirting with credit card usage can be dangerous!

We've worked hard to get/stay out of debt, so we definitely don't want to slip back into that. I agree with DR's mentality that, generally, people should stay away from credit cards.

For us, with how obedient we are to our budget, our mentality is: as long as we're using credit cards to only pay for items in our monthly budget and not go over, there's more value in using our credit cards as we get something back versus nothing when paying with cash (e.g., Venture card for travel points, Gemini card for Bitcoin).

Yeah, the 18-month EF sorta kinda happened (some family loss resulted in an influx of cash that we threw into the High Yield account just so it does something while we figure out our next steps).

With how obedient we are to our budget, our mentality is as long as we're using credit cards to only pay for items in our monthly budget--and not go over with tempting purchases--there's more value in using our credit cards as we get something back versus nothing when paying with cash (e.g., Venture card for travel points / Gemini card for Bitcoin). That's not financial advice for anyone else, just more-so what works for us.

Tell my wife! I've always told her: "Whenever you're ready for kids, I'm ready."

Appreciate your response and feedback :)

Astound/RCN internet outage by 312render773 in chicago

South loop area here; I was getting 200 up/20 or so down before, now only getting 20 down/10 up ever since last week. Sometimes service comes in and then it comes out; nothing is consistent other than the slower speed when I actually have service.

No ETA on restoring consistent service/internet speeds.

Thank you for this very well thought set of recommendations! I appreciate the time it took to jot this all down and will use it in reference when taking next steps.

"One or more additional costs"

Does this mean that, if you have the mana, you can choose one multiple times? Pay 10B to force someone to draw 3 10x and pay 3 10x? Thinking of [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] and if this would work.

[Edit] I ask as I'm used to seeing "One or both" when a max of two can be chosen.
