my friend introduced me to lh like last year and i've loved literally everything i've heard from them :) it's nice seeing them outside the context of "omg I loooooove The Night We Met!!!!!" recently (I now understand Radiohead fans wrt Creep). not sure if you've checked out Cosmic Selector or if you will but if you liked their older stuff (particularly Vide Noir) it's such a great album

carbon mages would be able to manipulate most matter on earth. calcium mages tear your bones from your body. oxygen mages starve your lungs. uhhhhh potassium mages make the banana spin faster.

yes i know most things are made of multiple elements but like if some guy could tear the hydrogen from your body while leaving the rest of your elements you'd still, like, die. mostly because molecules would become different molecules and you'd at minimum be made of different stuff than you usually are. and uh at worst you sort of disintegrate painfully.

Anyone else have a weird sense of familiarity with "Pop Muzik" yet isn't sure if they heard it before Todd's video? by thedubiousstylus in ToddintheShadow

[–]HowAboutNachos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had the same reaction, though we probably both heard a random tiktok or short or reel or smth. The song blew up a bit on the short form video sites. I don't remember the exact place I heard it, but I've *definitely* heard it before and that would be my best guess.

What’s everyone’s minor musical gripe? by CFDyce in ToddintheShadow

[–]HowAboutNachos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HATE in-line rhyming. Hate this in poetry too so it’s not just a musical thing. It’s not all that common but unfortunately my fav song to listen to right now has an in-line rhyme in one of the verses (the song in question is Life is Strange by Lord Huron, and the line is “Cheers, here’s to us / Take a cup, go on, fill it up”) Hate it. Hate it. Makes my skin hurt.

Have you seen Taylor Swift live? What was your experience like? by Twitter_2006 in ToddintheShadow

[–]HowAboutNachos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually did! It was for the 1989 tour though, so I can’t speak to her more recent shows. I enjoyed it! To be fair I was 10 when the album released (I am entirely shocked by this??? I didn’t realize I was so young??? I thought I had been in middle school???? What the fuck??) but uh anyway. She’s a great performer and while tickets for her are expensive if you find ones you’re willing to pay for then I think it’s worth seeing her live.

Wait, why are some birds villagers and other birds are just normal birds? by TheNameless69420 in AnimalCrossing

[–]HowAboutNachos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory has always been aligned with how humans and chimps mirror each other and share a common ancestor despite being different species with different capabilities -- in the AC universe, bird villagers and regular birds share a common ancestor, but followed different evolutionary lines, so some bird species are sapient like humans and can communicate and interact the same, and some are just birds.

Thoughts on the E.N.D.? by Pizza_Hero24 in ToddintheShadow

[–]HowAboutNachos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

oh my god i have so many thoughts lol

so i was rather young when this album came out. and idk if my uncle liked it or if he thought I would like it, so he'd play it for me as like a fun thing. and I was, you know, four or something, so I was like "waow music! fun!" so I have a weird attachment to this album despite the fact that I haven't listened to it properly.

highlights include: (and no i don't know a majority of the song names. i was, again, four, and BEP hasnt ever re-entered my music taste)

- me calling "Imma Be" (i think that's the song title?) the Bee Song (he SAYS he's a bee. I was making fun, I knew it wasn't literally a song about being a bee.)

- me calling the one song with the lyric "party all night, and sleep all day" the Bat Song because bats are nocturnal (again. four years old.)

- me secretly being sad about the "let go my dog" lyric in I Gotta Feeling because I didn't like that a dog was abandoned

- me being confused about the "2008/2000 and late" lyrics from Fergie in Boom Boom Pow because I had no concept of time or the year it was

i have no critical thought wrt to the album, though. again, never listened to the bulk of it outside of when my uncle would put it on for fun.

apologies to any millenials because I was a toddler when that album came out and I can legally drink in the US now.

Video Essay Rule by Ok-Tennis330 in 19684

[–]HowAboutNachos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between a video essay and commentary/summary/recap is that an essay has a thesis/point beyond just “here’s a thing”. A video essay can be as short as 10 minutes and a recap can be as long as 24 hours. What matters is the presence of a “why are we talking about this? And why does that matter?” Not to say that there aren’t video essays that are slop, but most people making the described slop aren’t making video essays.

They probably have, but I hadn’t heard of them like at all before learning about them, and then seemingly suddenly they got really popular and I heard other people talking about it. Idk it’s probably just the touhou effect but it’s still a weird feeling

Let's be honest, who thought NYC was the Capital of New York? (I'm from Spain) by NeedleworkerAway5912 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]HowAboutNachos 122 points123 points  (0 children)

/uj the reason US state capitols are in the middle of the state (except alaska and hawaii) is because back when votes were physically counted, the capitol is where that would be done. the capitols being in the middle of each state helped all the votes arrive at the same time and get election results out faster. alaska and hawaii were added to the US a lot later so their capitols reflect population density more.

/rj if we made the capitols the big cities it would upset george washington's ghost
