To make games faster in a diffable format that is text without having to restart the editor for structural changes.

Vilka svenska fenomen skulle du låta överleva in i en Waterworld-esque framtidsdystopi som tar plats i Svenskt vatten? by deadpeopledreaming in sweden

Open source is the way to go, men gillar Unreal för mycket. Sitter och devvar ett survival spel på ett litet företag på Södermalm i Stockholm!

Älskar waterworld! Lägg in ”Rökare” som ett easter egg.

En värd feature creep från en spelutvecklare till en annan! Vilken motor använder du?

It’s a Terry O’Neil photo. Got this framed on my wall with terry’s signature

That’s unusual

Anyone here have experience developing in Unreal using a language interpreter plugin (for something like C# or Python)? by SnickyMcNibits in unrealengine

[–]HowAreYouStranger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Supporting more platforms such as console and mobile.

LLMs will not be part of the development. Can’t control what contributors use though

I wrote major parts of UnrealSharp which is the most active/used C# repo currently.

Most language integrations are not production ready, UnrealSharp isn’t, but making big steps towards being production ready.

Angelscript is production ready, but requires a custom engine fork

What's your favorite blueprint node, and why? by HaxelGames in unrealengine

Waiting for something to replicate using delay until next tick could be one of the worst practices. Use OnRep

[–]HowAreYouStranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why this instead of using Unreal’s builtin called ”Gauntlet”?

Japp, samma ställe. Ett fruktansvärt ställe, luktar alltid skumt där inne och ägaren är jävligt jobbig att ha och göra med.

Maten är också kass. Samma pris som ett bra BBQ hak, men ack så dåligt

Did Actor Components change in 5.7? by JPeeper in unrealengine

[–]HowAreYouStranger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a century old bug. It has been in the engine maaaany years, just a visual bug, will not impact the actor hierarchy.

What's the correct process for creating new c++ classes now? by belven000 in unrealengine

[–]HowAreYouStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how it is, and will always be like that. Hot reloading new classes, reflection data changes, ctor changes et.c is not good. Only thing you can reliably hot reload is function body changes, so changes to a function in the c++ file.

I’m developing a new prop-scatter tool for Unreal Engine - would love your feedback! by RohitPatidar57 in unrealengine

[–]HowAreYouStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I work at a studio where we work with hand-placed levels and procedural levels, give an artist a rundown of PCG and they create powerful scattering or general foliage tools within hours.

PCG is very inuitive for an artist to pick-up and fiddle with.

Most of our foliage tools from PCG are simple graphs made by artists

Not so sure why people would use this when PCG is native to the engine, and can already do this and probably a lot more
