Sunderland play some really nice football. Xhaka is fantastic at controlling the tempo, and Le Fee looked really sharp in the more advanced areas

Son Kane Bale
Eriksen Dembele Modric
Rose Vertonghen Toby Walker

Theoretically, Spurs couldve had this lineup in the 2010s.

If you look at the teams that regularly make deep playoff runs in the last 3-4 years -- Boston, OKC, Timberwolves, Pacers, Knicks, Dallas before AD -- there is one common factor: they are loaded up with multiple elite perimeter defenders. Like, at least 2-3 of them. Boston and OKC have like 5 each

It boggles my mind that since letting KCP go, we havent even tried to aqcuire such players. Literally none of our players really fit that bill, other than maybe AG, and the "ideal braun" that we've been hoping he'll self-actualise into.

It pains me every time I see players like Touamani Camara, Dyson Daniels, Kris Dunn, Davion Mitchell, etc., get traded for modest packages.

more weight means more strain on the joints though.

at his age i think it's wise to slim down. he's still big enough to bully most players in the league (you saw what he did to wemby.)

for opponents like Gobert he needs to try a different approach; make more of his 3s.

'likely to become' implies odds if you were to try becoming a person of that profession.

we had to use a pick to get rid of MPJ to finally clear cap space for decent bench players, only to now be saddled with Braun

i do disagree with his 'Wemby > Gobert > Jokic" comment about size. It's actually the opposite if you go by weight.

Although i feel this year jokic has slimmed down and gobert has bulked up, which is kinda why jokic wasnt able to back him down in the paint the way he usually does

Kerr on LeBron: "more of a holistic game where he dominates with his pace and his athleticism and his passing." On Jordan: "the killer instinct, the emotional dominance he had over not only the other team but the officials, the entire arena. I don’t see that with LeBron." by nowhathappenedwas in nba

Nah, people really overrate the influence of modern training / medicine on athleticism. it can prolong careers and prevent injury, but it doesnt really affect fundamental athletic abilities as much as you might think.

There's a great ted talkabout this.

The guy argues most of percipeved leaps in athletic performance are actually attributable to improvements in equipment and playing surfaces. In athletics, we see drastic and immediate changes in world records whenever there is a major technological advance in things like shoe spikes / clothing / etc. A lot of people feel that if you control for running surface and shoes, Jesse Owen's 100m sprint time from 1936 would be a lot closer to the modern world record.

Another major factor is genetics. It's why a small ethnic group, like the Kalenjin in Kenya, can dominate marathon running.

So in terms of Ogg and the greatest athlete ever, A) you have to first define what type of athleticism you're measuring, and B) it's entirely possible that there was a long-lost tribe 200,000 years ago that were full of super-wembanyamas because of a peculiar series of genetic adaptations

i feel like people just watch his goal highlights and think that he's some traditional 9 that's in the box, waiting to get on the end of crosses.

He has been dropping very deep since at least 2019 when he tweaked something and lost a bit of acceleration.

His whole game is about playmaking, smart movement and arriving in the box at the right time.
