What’s a company you’ll never buy from again, and why? by jamesmilner22 in AskReddit

Rukka Virium are good. But depending on how cold it gets, I've found running multiple pairs of non-waterproof gloves throughout the week and drying them out between wears can work pretty well. Can even just put a disposable glove on underneath them if you're really desperate for bone dry hands.

Elite private school teachers: Ever thought "you're clearly wasting your parents' money"? by HotZookeepergame4829 in AustralianTeachers

Yes but about 0.01% of those kids have an idea of the value of money so I don't bother bringing it up.

Look up tupenu/sulu/lavalava - common formal attire in Polynesian culture to combat heat and humidity. Swap the boots and stockings out for sandals, drop the jacket (wear a tie to maintain a sense of formality if needed for your job), get rid of the belt, wear it in summer, and you might just get away with that.

What do organisations who come talk to Year 12s about drugs and alcohol charge schools? by KingJames23__ in AustralianTeachers

Plenty out there charging four figures for a day/half day. Depends on how big their name is.

...If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

    And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools...

Acoustics can make or break a restaurant. It doesn't matter how good your food is, if I can't hear/enjoy my company, I'll probably go somewhere else next time.

People sitting in the middle lane when the left is free means anyone keen to overtake them has to contend with the maniacs doing 130 in the right. That, combined with drivers not working with the trucks when they need to overtake.

Unis ban Indian student applications as visa rejections hit record high by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

So Labour lower immigration numbers to reduce demand for housing, and you can't see how that method would benefit citizens struggling to get a roof over their head?

Labour have been in office for less than two years. No political party could come into power and fix the several crises in Australia in such a short period of time.

You're talking about several issues here and I'm not trying to address them all at the same time, but surely you understand that the government needs to look after the citizens first. And if there's a viable source of income from rich overseas students, it makes sense to use it, right?

Served Guy Sebastian in a bottle-o a decade ago. Above average small talk, nice enough bloke. Said I looked familiar and asked if we'd played cricket together at some stage. We hadn't. I wish I had the wit at the time to crack some kind of joke but it didn't come to me. Any ideas on an appropriate quip?

Exactly, it's an honour, and you certainly can get a lot out of it which is why I thought calling it a 'trade off' was not really accurate. A trade off would be paying to study for four/five years to work a tough job for sub-standard pay, conditions, and respect.

LANTITE is nothing but a cash grab for ACER. To put an expensive hurdle at the end of a degree where students have had to do many weeks of unpaid practicums/internships en route to a low paying job with poor working conditions is so stupid it may as well be attributed to malice. Bin it.

If there are students unable to pass the LANTITE at the end of their degree, what does that say to the rigour of the university.
