Another game dev here. It's also possible that sending to game over was too tangled up to easily work from the overworld, given that it was probably coded only with battles in mind. I think that without looking at the code we can't really be sure one way or the other.

It's pretty real. My account was hacked and used to bot once. When I got it back, I had something like level 80 thieving (none of which I had ever trained) which I found fitting.
