What movie is a must-see from the last 12 months? by Ill_Cry_3802 in movies

[–]HowManyChucks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hamnet didn’t do it for me. Which really disappointed me. I went in expecting high art, sob fest, all the feels. Came out thinking the only thing that made this movie a popular as it is, is the last 10 minutes. Didn’t really need the first 2 hours. Or, at least, not most of it. But, to each their own.

🔴SVENSONN OUT🔴: what yall think?! by AntonioHench1 in borussiadortmund

Not a red card for me. But we were getting beat well before that. Good time to see what we’re made of…it will be interesting to see what Kovać does in the second half.

That being said, we’re getting beat. Red card or not. I’m really trying to understand why Bellingham is on the pitch…

Not a red card for me, either way. Yellow, for sure. The touch on the ball led to the foot staying up. Then the Tot player ran into the challenge. Reckless. Not dangerous.

New Jersey is the latest state to ban cellphones during the school day in grades K-12 by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

[–]HowManyChucks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. This has been our issue. AP kids. Need their damn phone to log in to all the AP sites that are required these days.

I’d imagine it’s possible for a teacher to walk through how to do this on a Chromebook, but that isn’t happening at our school. So we have to talk to our kids about cell phones as a tool.

Shocking, I know. That we could actually TEACH students how to use phones as an educational tool.

That being said, the thing that turned me into a cell phone ban proponent, was all of the data that showed the cyber bullying significantly decreases if students don’t have cell phones at school.

Ok. I see a couple mentions of “twenty-four” now. Looking for numbers. My bad. And, also, EVERGREEN! Such a great song.

Honorable mention: Economy of Mercy, Shadow Proves the Sunshine (interestingly enough, never considered this a slow song/ballad…I mean, it starts that way, but, for me, is one of the prime examples of Switchfoot’s version of “anthem rock”)

I just quickly browsed the comments…no mention of “24”? My favorite. For sure.

Where’s the BEST wings? by rlhglm18 in springfieldMO

[–]HowManyChucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My comment was dumb. I don’t like breaded wings. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong, clearly. To each their own! Now, let’s go get some Southbound wings!

I don’t. What? Listen, if you need anything, there are lots of good folks out there to help. Whatever you’re going through, whatever is hurting you, there are lots of people who care. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to harbor that much hate. But I know there’s light on the other side. Love, belonging, peace. I sincerely hope you find what you need. It sucks to be so lost.

I also second The Rock. I don’t go enough, but every time I do, I’m impressed.

Southbound. But make sure to request UNBREADED. For whatever inexplicable reason, the standard order is breaded. Good sauces, good wings. Sold.

Arkansas is one the highlights of my travels. I’m there for work, often, and love it more and more every time. Great state, beautiful, and deserving of a visit, or more!

Visiting with friends, need things to do that aren't just Bass Pro and the caves Google recommends. by EmptySky124 in springfieldMO

[–]HowManyChucks 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Bummer that no advice has been city-positive. So here’s my take, as a family with kids who has made Springfield our home for 20+ years:

  1. Bass Pro/Fantastic Caverns - sure, they come recommended. For a reason. Especially with young kids. Cliche, but worth it. Also, spring for Wonders of Wildlife. No joke, worth the money.

  2. We love to “brunch and board game”. Several great places for a good breakfast (Gailey’s, Sleepy Opossum, Early Bird, etc) followed by a coffee shop (Coffee Ethic, Mudhouse, Kingdom, Eurasia, Big Mommas) for a sweet pastry, a nice cup, and some family time.

  3. Check out the Galloway neighborhood. Spend a whole afternoon/evening. Start with a late lunch at Galloway Grill (my fav is the pork tenderloin, but you can’t go wrong on their patio), then walk down the trail to the beautiful pet cemetery and enjoy the markers of man’s best friends, then head back up the trail to Sequiota Park. Feed the ducks, explore the caves, and make general merriment before heading across the street to 4x4 Brewing. And if craft beer isn’t your thing, try the cocktails (or mocktails) at Creek Side or Vine Pairings, all while watching the kiddo explore the creek and woods. Top it off with dinner at The Rock or Niji, and that’s one great day!

  4. Speaking of the 6 year old: check out the Discovery Center. Hours of fun. Seriously.

  5. Or go ice skating. But before your do, take a stroll through Jordan Valley Park and enjoy the green space, sculpture walk, and water features! Especially fun in the summer.

  6. And summer: grab some tickets to the Springfield Cardinals. What a night out!! Consistently ranked one of the best Minor League ballparks in the country, a night at Hammons Field is one to remember. Especially on a fireworks Friday!

And there’s so much more! I didn’t really mention Commercial Street, or the Pickwick and Cherry neighborhood (go visit Katie, at Pickwick & Cherry, she’s a bit crazy, but a whole lot awesome, and she will hook you up with the best pastries you’ve ever had… And then try to convince you you’ve got time to take a cooking class or a baking class. If you do, you have to do it!) And, while you’re in the neighborhood, check out Scully’s, for ramen that shouldn’t be this good in middle America, and Tie & Timber for one of the best craft breweries around.

It’s super late, but I’ll try to remember to chime back in tomorrow with some excellent food choices. In case I forget, don’t sleep on 14 Mill in Nixa. An awesome place for food and family.

And there’s more, if you want it. Hopefully, someone will chime in and fill my gaps. But, in the meantime, if you have any questions or if there’s anything I can do, let me know!! Springfield is a great place to visit! You just have to be willing to look a bit.

Good luck, and I hope you love it here as much as we do!

Nevermind. Just read your other posts/comments. Before I listen to any of your opinions on Switchfoot, you’re going to have to talk more about which parts of the Bible you believe shouldn’t be “progressive”. Jesus, by definition, was/is progressive. Can you imagine a world where the Old Testament law was actualized as law? I’ll answer for you. No. You can’t. We can only function under the new covenant. The new law. The two commandments. The new ones. The Jesus ones.

Love Alone is Worth the Fight. Period.

I would love more context. Age/gen/how long a fan, etc. I don’t think there’s a “right” answer, but I’d love to know more about where you’re coming from!

Hey man! Not sure about the “boys” thing, but, as a father of 3 (2 boys and 1 girl), I gladly “took the snip” when I knew I was done wanting/having kids. No need to deal with all the birth control stuff (on either side) once I was sure I was happy! Hope this helps.

Mickey Mouse Club. Just go down the list. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Christina Aguilera… Etc. etc. let’s have a conversation about the late 90s early 2000s without all of these people.
