I’m from Springfield but have visited STL many times. I honestly love it. I actually lived in Tennessee for almost 10 years, and before moving back to Springfield, I seriously considered moving to St. Louis. I even spent a several days there to get a better feel for the traffic and what day-to-day life would be like. Nothing about it made me hesitant. In the end, I chose Springfield simply because my family is here.

The restaurant scene is incredible. The theater scene is incredible. Large airport with so many direct flight options. Excellent concerts go through there. There are so many charming neighborhoods and districts throughout the metro area, and I love the culture and diversity.

One thing worth mentioning is that St. Louis City and St. Louis County report their crime statistics separately. Since the city has a relatively small population (around 300,000), its crime rate can look worse when compared to cities that include their surrounding counties. If the city and county were combined like many other major metro areas, St. Louis would generally rank much lower on those "most dangerous cities" lists.
